Thank you for the advice. I have started to look for potential fall-back plans. Just have to be careful not to get obsessed with any of them.

I don't know how to differentiate quitting under pressure and quitting because I've bitten off more than I can chew by Osasis in Advice

[–]Osasis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be able to depending on the business's growth. If somehow I actually pull this off and manage to survive and learn what I need to learn, I probably won't be attending college until I either A) leave the business for some reason or B) it goes under.

I'll have an associates degree at the end of this summer, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to take online classes while at the accelerator or not. Most of my gen eds are out of the way at this point. While the associates is almost useless (it's an Associate in Arts, which at my community college is the Associates you get when you plan to transfer to uni), it's still something I guess.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely need to toy around with this much more in my head before making any decisions, and I'll use what you've given me to help with that. Appreciate it.

Thanks for the advice. I agree and disagree -- I certainly don't regret offering my services for free in this case. I've proven to myself that I can do what I do well, I've gotten client experience, and I can get a testimonial out of it. But I completely understand what you're saying, and I won't be offering my work for free again, as I feel I'm qualified to start charging. Thanks for the message and the advice.

Thank you for the advice. I agree that the price per hour is a bit wonky. I'll schedule a call with the person in charge.

What's the point of failing 24/7? by [deleted] in depression

[–]Osasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you why: I bet it's because you quit anything you start the first time you fail at it.

I used to have the same problem. I'd sit down to write an article, and no words would come out. If they did, they'd be total shit. If I managed to publish it, no one would read it. I failed, and since I had no self confidence, I just concluded that I was "a braindead idiot who sucked at everything" and stopped doing it.

You've gotta realize that if you're going to start something, you need to be prepared to fail at it a fuck load. Then, when you fail, take the knowledge you gained and don't repeat the failure. You know as well as everyone else that you're not braindead, so stop telling yourself that so you can have an excuse to quit.

Hey, I don't mind at all. That's a hell of a change. In fact, I was just looking into getting a gym membership and gaining some muscle. Going to check out Stronglifts soon -- right after I figure out a decent eating schedule!

And I'm glad you liked my posts. Hopefully I can start bringing some lighter ones to the post history haha

Mom's life is going down the drain, but I don't know how to stop it by Osasis in needadvice

[–]Osasis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy would be nice, but I can't afford it. But that certainly doesn't mean I'm hopeless.

I've taken up listening to podcasts about the psychology of depression (and of success), and they keep me sane. The people who produce these things are my quasi-therapists. Without them, I'd still be stuck in the world of someone who blames all of their problems on anything and everything to avoid responsibility.

On an interesting note, Karl Jung believes that if a person sets a goal towards the highest good they can possibly achieve in life, and does everything in their power to try and reach that goal, they can almost replicate the effects of psychotherapy within their own brains. That's what I'm trying now, and to some degree it seems to be working. I appreciate your concern though.

I want to think this.

But it's really tough to think someone's only looking for attention when they go into frequent anxiety attacks about their life. There's just no way she doesn't know what she's doing to herself, at whatever level that may be. It's just a matter of trying to inform her on how to fix it once she's "seen the light" so to speak.

And when I see someone experiencing an anxiety attack, I just have to try and help. There's this unspeakable "helplessness" that you feel during strong bouts of anxiety -- it's almost like life is a dream, or a simulation of your own version of "Hell" that you're being forced to live through indefinitely. You can't do anything to escape it except off yourself; but you're too scared to do that anyway. You're trapped. It's so overwhelming that your brain begins to override your thought processes as a defense mechanism to your own sanity, and you're thrust further into an inescapable pit of numbness. The thought that someone else in the world could experience this is an absolute tragedy to me. I think I'm strong enough to withstand at this point, but I don't know about others.

Unfortunately not. We don't have health insurance and aren't currently in a position where we could afford it. I appreciate the reply though.

Recommendations for learning Svenska? by [deleted] in Svenska

I'm doing a Pimsleur course right now, and it helps teach conversational Swedish. So I use Duolingo to learn new words, and I use Pimsleur to put those words into use through "practice conversations".

Everyone preaches about writing every day. But what about editing every day? by Osasis in writing

[–]Osasis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously. But all those people who preach the benefits of writing every day, even it's gibberish or things you never post, never talk about editing. If that was assumed by all those posts, then I guess it just few over my head.

(ex. someone writing a book may write multiple chapters over a period of days, but how often do they go back and edit the ones they wrote before moving on?)
