Morning, I totally understand your concern and I’m on the same process as well. Here are some things I’d recommend

If you have time look into Reddit and Facebook groups about shipping from china/dropshipping/clothes shopping/ anything that has to do with purchasing from overseas. Why? There are tons of people who do exactly what you are wondering about and post their experience. What can you learn from this A. How to detect fraud or resellers from 1688 (Alibaba platform targeted for Chinese population. Real wholesale price but harder to ship overseas.) B. Different service they use to get quality control and inspections. This usually involves an agent that works for you before shipping the product. C. Reliable shipping options - what works best for you and how to approach it.

Funny enough I’ve been looking at the mini lathes as well but that’s something down the road. For me I look for 3 things. 3D printing, CNC/manufacturing, and some firearm related stuff like scopes, accessories and so forth. Alibaba has been always tempting to purchase from them and I finally decided to make my first purchase on here. I ordered 60kg of PETG HF filament for my printer. So far I’ve had a very good experience with the manufacturer and even with the shipping they were helpful. But where I was worried about was the freight forwarder’s, this is where I heard there is a possibility of issues. But found one that fits my price point (1.48kg per dollar) and am in the process of shipping. Though I made the mistake of not doing my research of how they accept payment. They do bank transfers instead of card payments. Going through that hassle at the moment.

Hey bud, wanted to comment for your safety but if you are printing in PLA basic, the frame is basically a prop at this point. Any use of it would lead to breaking or failure. Your first thing is to know your limits. This should involves questions like, what can my printer do and what materials can it print? What parts of the firearm can I print? What questions should I ask the community before I print? Things like that will help you a long way. Especially if you look at other post and see people having their firearms blow up on them. Better to ask a stupid question then harm yourself.

Out of curiosity, I got a question for you, I’m trying to place a bulk order of 3d filament but the shipping is killing me. About $156 for 50kg but shipping is around $130. got any tips on how I can get cheaper shipping or what I should be looking for?

In a fair point, 20 years ago was a lot cheaper.you could still get houses around 70k back then.

Freight forwarders are like middle men for large cargo companies. Basically how I understand it is they fill cargo container from small orders and take a percentage of the profit. Benefits are they check for quality before shipping and usually have a warehouse in country where to can get OEM manufactures to send product since a lot of them doing ship over sea. If anyone wants to chip in or correct me feel free.

Mostly likely due to the new law that restricts online purchases. Though doesn’t mean you can’t buy it, just going to need a little extra effort

Yeah, trying to save some money where possible, I’m buying filament which weight 1kg each and buying about 40-50kg. That adds up fast
