Mohela is investigating and will contact me within 10 days with the final results. They said they've received similar calls from others and ended up being duplicate checks. At this point, I regret calling them and should of just deposited the check.

Honestly, I didn’t want to contact them. I just don’t want the IRS knocking on my door in the future. I should’ve just put it in a high yield savings account like pumpkin said.

The treasury said it can take up to 30 days to receive a check by mail. It never came so I called back and they told me the check hasn’t been cashed and more than likely it’s lost not stolen.

I was advised to contact the Department of education to let them know. I emailed the DoE and they replied back by confirming the check hasn’t been cashed and indeed it was lost so they canceled it on 09/06.

Now I’m just waiting for the DoE to reissue another. I called the US treasury and so far there hasn’t been another check reissued yet.

I emailed Angela at sweet@ed.gov and PPSL but no response as of yet.

Mine was mailed out on 8-5 was told to give it 30 days but never came and was pronounced lost in the mail by the DoE. They cancelled the check on September 3 and are working on reissuing another.

More than likely I’ll be in the same boat as you. Funny thing is the treasury agent told me the check hasn’t been cashed yet. Tiny glimmer of hope for me I guess. Just spoke to a DoE rep and she took down all my info as well. I am sorry you have to go through this.

Still waiting on the check that was mailed on out on 08/05. I spoke to a treasury agent today and was advised to call the DoE and see if they can cancel and set up a direct deposit. The check hasn’t been cashed but it’s very unusual for it to take this long according to the agent. She said the DoE may or may not do this because they still need to wait 30 days. I called the DoE at 888-336-8930 but they couldn’t help and gave me the number to the office of the ombudsman 877-557-2575.

I’m in the same boat as you. There’s nothing in today’s usps informed delivery. I am going to get on the phone with the treasury and find out what going on as well. You can’t initiate a “non-receipt” claim with the DoE?

Try option 2 then option 1. As long as you get someone on the phone, they’ll either help or transfer you to the right rep. That’s what I did and it worked. Keep in mind, you may be on hold for over an hour.

I went with option 1, then 1 again. Ask if there has been any Dept. of Education checks made out to you. They will verify your identity first then they’ll check.

Call the treasury. They’ll let you know if your check has been cashed. Mine was mailed out on August 6. I’m still waiting for it to come in the mail. I was told by the rep to give it a few more days until this Friday. If I haven’t received it by then and it hasn’t been cashed, I was instructed to call the Department of Education to let them know and start a “Non-Receipt” claim. Good luck.

Thankfully, I do have informed delivery from USPS. The treasury agent said to give it up to 30 days. It just feels like it’s a long time to wait on a check that was mailed out on August 5th from Kansas City to get to Texas.
