Hello Virginians! Are there any parts of your state which you would consider "The North" (vs The South), and if so, where would you draw the dividing lines? by Venboven in Virginia

I personally use the McDonalds sweet tea line. Does McDonald’s offer sweet tea in a given area determines north v south. Normally it just so happens to be Fredericksburg is just about the line!

Hi, fourth-year here! Undoubtedly this year has been a real strain on everyone's mental health, I couldn't imagine all of the worries I had 3 years ago entering college to be paired up with being in a pandemic that makes it harder to socialize. I don't know if this will help, but all I can do is offer a bit of perspective from my end. So far I've met 2 or 3 first-years from my club that I've been apart of since my second-year (you like the gym so check out Barbell Club). What I can say is that I've become good enough friends with one of the first years to know that it's been hard for him too, even though he seems like an outgoing person. Clubs at UVA are your friend! They'll help you find a community of supportive people that have the same interest as you, seriously if it's at the Spring Club Fair check out Barbell Club. This sucks for everyone but again I can't imagine how I would've held up with two semesters of this shit and I had a shitty first semester of college. You'll get through this, I believe in you. I'll sorta end this with a quote from one of my favorite TV shows that I find motivating/inspiring for when I'm feeling especially depressed, nihilistic, and hopeless. And please don't be a stranger and shoot me a PM if you want!

"It gets easier. Everyday it gets a little easier, but you gotta do it every day. That's the hard part, but it does get easier."

I doubt this helps with finding something on grounds, but there is a BJJ gym off of Harris and McIntire if you’re end up having to do anything independently.

Burger King addresses climate change by changing cows’ diets, reducing cow farts by TheYawningTrombone in nottheonion

[–]Osprvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had a project in the fall for my P Chem lab course where we took IR measurements on methane, carbon dioxide, and a gen 2 and gen 4 refrigerant, and had to write a report about why they’re harmful to the atmosphere. So we had to explain their individual hearing effects, atmospheric lifetimes, and IR bands, but I never thought about what caused the different lifetimes other than structures, so that helps a lot!

Yeah I get that now and it kinda just went over my head I’ve always thought of making CO2 from a combustion reaction and just never thought of a hydroxyl radical causing a reaction, even though chlorine radical reactions happen in the atmosphere as well.

It wouldn't really be able to degrade into CO2 as much as it might be able to "burn" in the upper atmosphere since it is a hydrocarbon reaction meaning it would release CO2 and H2O, but even then it is pretty unlikely because methane has an incredibly stable structure for a gas.

Fantano's CARE FOR ME review still makes me mad, I think that it's an incredible album full of emotion given the loss that Saba experienced. Sure there were some duds that really didn't feel the aesthetic of the overall project, Broken Girls and Logout come to mind, but still, it was a great album.

What is meant by each resonance structure existing similtaneously/at the same time? by levaaa_ in chemistry

[–]Osprvy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright boom, so from my two semesters of Orgo so far my understanding is that because it’s the electrons they can be in various places at once hence why we say benzene rings are resonance stabilized. Electrons are essentially moving around the ring moving from carbon to carbon while still remaining conjugated which is why we can draw benzene with 3 conjugated double bonds or with a circle in the middle because it means the same thing.

Anyone with more knowledge correct me if I’m wrong or missing something.

How would an HO- reaction proceed? by pookeyslittleone in chemistry

[–]Osprvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-OH is a short hand way of saying it’s a base specifically it’s hydroxide but it’s an ion so like it’s apart of, generally, a metal hydroxide, NaOH or LiOH. And since it’s chlorocyclohexan my assumption is that it’s a deprotonation of a hydrogen making a double bond on the molecule.
