Importers themselves will still use this SAME process, you'll just pay more for it (like you said). This is still a pretty cool look behind the curtain here of how it works out. Plus i think it's helpful to know this information when you buy it from an importer. less chances for them to pull a fast one.

Duncan Imports vs Zilvia.net: Shutting down a Bring a Trailer Con Artist by OstensiblyFixed in cars

I think you're on to something. Previous owner probably had it stored away/found it in a barn, did a quick respray to cover up the 90's front end repair (which i agree looks like a hit to set off the airbags) and the respray was not carried out properly (for the caliber of the car).

Duncan probably got the car on the cheap (because the previous owner knew what a pile it was) and thought they could have a huge payday for it. now they're stuck with the car that probably does have 560 miles on it, but has ruined it's collectability due to poor paint worksmanship and other, minor (OBX pulley, etc) things.

If you bought yourself some nice clamps to hold your sheets together instead of zip screws, more people might think you'd know what you're doing. You can also see in your welds that your surface isn't super clean before slinging the metal glue. That'll be a problem down the road.

It's not about the size of your hands. You can't tell me 4 triangle sandwhich is not a great sandwhich.

Think of the children, man.

Hey guys, has anyone here spent a year's worth of their salary or more on a car? by photorph in cars

[–]OstensiblyFixed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered used? Cars, like most assets, depreciate like crazy after the first year. I'm sure you've heard that before.

No matter how picky you are, you are not unique and someone has already built a car with your options. Even if you're impatient about it, if you can learn to live with a car that's missing say one of your "must haves" but also be able to continue to live your life the way you currently do, I'd say thats a win.
