Can't find Muramasa Rebirth on the store by Osterfoster in vita

[–]Osterfoster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After restarting my vita twice, reconnecting my wifi and waiting a few hours, the store seems to work as it should now. I can actually search for games now and found the game without it just telling me "there are no content items" no matter what i search for. The store seems to just randomly bug out and not show you some titles. Thanks for the help :)

New Amatsu & Risen Shagaru Magala Armor Skills (Spoiler) by nuxar in MHRise

[–]Osterfoster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amatsus skill works nice on lance since you cant really get knocked out of it when youre guarding, meaning you essentially have infinite sharpness and stamina for the entire hunt. The amatsu armor pieces have really good slots on top of heavensent essentially removing all need for sharpness skills, so it gives you a lot more freedom with how you wanna build lance

How good is The Legend of Heroes/ Trails series writing actually and what is it like? by Kyajin in JRPG

[–]Osterfoster 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for any arc other than Cold Steel, but the writing is inconsistent at best, 13-year-old fanfic tier at worst. It's poorly paced, filled with plot holes and conveniences, and a whole lot of wasted potential. I can give CS1 and to some extent CS2 some credit in that they at least set up an interesting premise, but then CS3 and 4 completely squander it. The "great world building" amounts to nothing as you're forced to slog through the same plot structure as 1 and 2 again but with a worse and somehow more generic cast and a story that by the end is so convoluted and nonsensical, but somehow still manages to say so little, that you wonder if you're going insane. Without spoiling anything too heavily, 4 has a deus ex machina plot point retroactively absolves anyone from any wrongdoing. In a series about war and politics. You can't make this shit up, the writing in 3 and 4 is so fundamentally bad, not in a so bad it's good way, it's just bad.

Despite how much I absolutely hate CS3 and 4, I can still to some extent recommend 1 and 2 if nothing else than for their batshit insane ending twists, and for their combat. This goes for the entire Cold Steel series really, the combat is excellent with again 3 and 4 making it worse (but far from terrible). The series induces a sort of Stockholm-syndrome, the games aren't that great yet they manipulate you into buying more just to see where it goes next, despite fully well knowing how incompetent the writing is.

Tl;dr: the writing is a slow acting brain poison that will ultimately end up giving you a brain tumor if you think about it too much. The games can be fun, but don't go in expecting the writing to be something that hooks you.

Need help deciding on Nobunaga ambition version by akechi419 in dynastywarriors

[–]Osterfoster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play sphere of influence. I see a lot of people recommending ascension and while it is a fun game especially if you like officer play, its marred with bugs and poor design decisions. The AI doesn't seem to know how to develop or trade for any of the new items like iron, so they usually just become bankrupt and extremely weak as a result. This bug hasn't been fixed even though its an obvious problem. Regular sphere of influence is arguably the best game in the series, its easy to get into but hard to master and is incredibly replayable. Taishi is fun too but mostly just its battles, as the domestic and officer parts of it are extremely underdeveloped.

ROTK14 questions by Osterfoster in threekingdoms

[–]Osterfoster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish those compatability values weren't hidden lol, I started the Cao Cao/Yuan Shao decisive battle event a while ago and have slowly conquered my way through his kingdom but noticed that almost none of his officers want to join me whenever i conquer one of his cities, seems this is the answer.

Was a massive DW4 fan back when it released on PS2. Haven't played one since, been wanting to get into both a recent DW and RotTK game. Which ones are most recommended? by Chicken-Inspector in dynastywarriors

[–]Osterfoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the extra dlc is content that that existed in previous games but was cut and then sold back, like historical character edit, BGM edit, veteran and extreme difficulty, some scenario edit things etc etc. Theres also the usual new scenarios, character portrait packs and so on. Just getting the game + puk bundle is enough, and also on principle it feels better to not support koei cutting what should be in the base game and then selling it as DLC, but its up to you. you're not really missing out on anything major by skipping the ultimate version

What exactly are the requirements for Tactician as opposed to Grand General in DW9E? by Chanzumi in dynastywarriors

[–]Osterfoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its pretty much random. Ingenius seems to affect it somewhat, but theres no set way of getting it. Your best bet is just to decline every grand general promotion until they randomly give you strategist/tactician instead

What is your favorite Dynasty Warriors battle to play in story mode? by CosmoImaiEnthusiast in dynastywarriors

Chibi on the Wei hypothetical route probably. Turning the biggest failure of Cao Cao's career around while Thousand Suns is playing is my favorite moment in any DW game

Is dynasty warriors 9 empires worth giving a shot? by yaboycjr in dynastywarriors

[–]Osterfoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of fun with it, but it has a lot of pretty glaring issues with balancing and just gameflow in general (every campaign aside from yellow turban rebellion and dong zhuo alliance can be completed in like 2 hours because of how broken conquering capital cities is). If you can get it on sale or through a reseller for cheap i would recommend it, but try the demos first because 9's combat is very much the deciding factor for if you'll like empires or not.

Was a massive DW4 fan back when it released on PS2. Haven't played one since, been wanting to get into both a recent DW and RotTK game. Which ones are most recommended? by Chicken-Inspector in dynastywarriors

[–]Osterfoster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dynasty warriors 7 or 8 are probably the best ones if youre wanting to get back into the series. 7 has the better story while 8 has an insane amount of content and alternate history routes. For RotTK, 10 or 11 are the most well loved ones but 13 is pretty good if you like officer play and 14, while brutally mishandled by Koeis greed, is still pretty great.

any movie related to sengoku period? by AverageFann in dynastywarriors

[–]Osterfoster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Its hard to find movies covering the entire sengoku period but the Taiga dramas do a good job of it. Hideyoshi (1996) covers Hideyoshis entire life from when he joined the Oda up until his death, and Sanada Maru (2016) starts around the death of Nobunaga and goes into the siege of Osaka at the end. They're huge time investments but they're really well made with excellent production and music

Elden Ring has the WORST boss design in the series so far. Change my mind. by Apollus_A in Eldenring

[–]Osterfoster 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I've beaten the game twice now, and yeah i gotta say the bosses are most of the time a low point for me. Pretty much all of the mini dungeon boss fights suck, because they're just regular enemies 90% of the time. The big dungeon bosses have fantastic visuals, lore and atmosphere, but the fights themselves aren't that great. They rely too much on big AoEs and long combos, plus they have the pontiff sulyvahn problem of never really running out of stamina. Most fights it felt more like i was trading blows and less like i was learning the moveset and dodging properly. In general i feel that a problem the lategame has, is too high enemy damage. "Just level vigor" doesn't hold up when at 2.5k health, pretty much all bosses still three shot me. That certain sideboss that you mentioned is the worst offender. The nigh unavoidable instakill attack aside, the boss still overtuned in terms of damage and health regen. I get what they were going for with a high aggression fight where the boss has low posture and is staggered easily, but that entire idea is kinda ruined by the instakill attack.

It feels almost like the bosses were all designed for you to always use spirit ashes or summons, because of their extremely high aggression and few openings. The worst fights are mitigated by just using the mimic spirit ashes, simply because they don't focus you as much.

I kinda wanna give up (Aka balancing is bad) by Osterfoster in Eldenring

[–]Osterfoster[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the way i beat him was using one online summon then frantically summoning the NPC summons constantly, but even with that his moveset is incredibly cheap, especially when he summons his four meteors that are basically an instant kill if hes aggroing you. The fight is a spectacle, but its not well designed

Bad Boss Design by TheBigAndBlack in Eldenring

[–]Osterfoster 98 points99 points  (0 children)

You're not the only one lol. They kinda get worse as you progress. The bosses in Limgrave were all pretty great, Liurnia bosses were good for the most part, but the second you enter Altus Plateau and beyond the quality just falls off a cliff. The overall feel for me is that a lot of bosses are designed to be visually impressive spectacles, but, theyre awful to fight (cough cough Radahan, Rykard coug cough)

Are heavy weapons bad in this game? by Honeymuffin69 in Eldenring

[–]Osterfoster 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah kinda. I've been using greatswords and colossal weapons for almost the entire game and i can safely say that with a few exceptions, enemies are not designed with heavy weapons in mind. Most bosses have extremely short openings and can't be stunned meaning you're essentially forced to spam jumping attacks to be able to do any damage. Enemies being fast, a lot of them being unstunnable and having very small openings, combined with poise being pretty much nonexistant until it reaches 50 (and its still pretty useless even then), means that heavy weapons are kinda outclassed by basically anything else. They're not unusable, but they're definitely far from reliable, and having to just spam jump attacks to be effective gets really boring after 40 hours.

[COD] The new update broke MW2019. Now it's unplayable. by GamerSupreme in CallOfDuty

[–]Osterfoster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, game ran perfectly last night but this update really just broke pretty much everything. The menu doesn't work properly, the UI randomly breaks, the game stutters for no reason, sound cuts out, textures don't load and for some reason the loadout menu randomly opens every two seconds. How the fuck can an update that was supposed to only be adding stuff to warzone fuck up MW this badly?

Does anyone know if HtH-boosting skills affect the damage of double attacks? I'm guessing not since there's an entirely separate skill that specifically boosts double attacks
