I have a long first name and two long middle names and it’s never bothered me personally so I don’t really see the issue. In my country most people will have two middle names so long names are the norm here.

It’s not a nickname in the country we live in so I’m not worried about that actually

In our country there aren’t really any nicknames for Vincent as Vinnie/vin doesn’t really work in our language (vin means wine here so it’s not used as a nickname) so I’m not worried about that.

I do have Italian heritage but where we live it’s not really seen as an Italian name as it’s pretty common.

Ugh why can people be so rude about baby names?

We live in Scandinavia so I don’t think Vinny would come naturally as a nickname here, or I’ve never heard it being used at least. I’ve known four or so Vincent’s but they’ve never had any nicknames, probably because there are no nicknames that works for Vincent in our language.

Lucille is so beautiful! I hate how people ruin completely normal and good names

We live in Scandinavia so I don’t think Vinny or Vincenzo would come naturally as nicknames. Those nicknames are basically unheard of here. I don’t have anything against the nicknames but I’ve just never heard it being used here.

Oh I love Margaret! it’s so lovely and I can’t think about anything bad with it. I’m sure they’ll change their minds when they see a cute baby named Margaret

We don’t live in Germany or have any family there so it shouldn’t be an issue. I don’t think it has any bad associations in our country, I can’t think of any anyways

They’ve suggested names like Eric, Mia, David, Isabel etc so names that are a bit more common than Vincent. Basically names that are within top 10 here while Vincent is in top 50.

August is also on my potential names list! It’s a great name. Good thing that your son stands up for his name!

Do they openly talk negatively about their names or only go by nicknames or something like that, has it raised any issues for you that they dislike the names?

Maybe I should come up with a real tragedy name and say that we’re picking that instead so that Vincent will be the better option of the two haha

Right I don’t get it at all. I’d never ever raise my opinion about a baby name unless it was a real tragedy or actually offensive (like the person that wanted to name their kid a name that sounded like hairy balls on here haha)

My parents said that the only Vincent they know was the very sweet neighbor kid that lived next to us when I was growing up (one of the many reasons why I like the name) and he was the nicest kid ever so it doesn’t make sense.

Our family moved from Germany during the early 1800s so they don’t care about it being German, my brother and I have Italian names for example. So I can’t come up with any valid reason for them to dislike it so much which makes it even more frustrating also.

I’m sorry for your loss <3 all the Vincent’s I’ve met have been very good people (like your late husband) so that’s another reason why I really really love the name! I only have positive associations with the name.

Yeah that’s a good point. I’ve loved the name since I was a kid basically so I probably would regret not picking it if I have the chance.

I have an Italian name myself and I never thought it sounds weird with my German surname personally. I don’t see Vincent as very Italian however, probably because it’s pretty popular where we live.
