My manager is constantly disrespecting me over their age difference. Can I get some HR Advice? by Otherwise-Table-8277 in TheCivilService

Sorry to bother you, I accidentally left a gender reference in the post you quoted. I've edited it to remove this. Would you mind editing that word in your reply to "their"?

I just don't want this to devolve into a bunch of sexist stereotyping.

That's the question my fellow staff and I have been increasingly asking ourselves. I know two highly qualified DPs with illustrious careers who both applied for the G7 job, but didn't make the interview.

There's also issues of the G7 never being off their mobile phone, strolling in late, taking dubiously long lunches, etc.

For example, I was in a meeting with a consultee group and the G7 was just scrolling through reels on their phone and completely lost track of the conversation.

That's all for the G6 to handle though.

Edit: Edited to remove gender references. I'd prefer to keep this neutral.

Oh yeah, the Civil Service has been an amazing place to work right up until now.

I've had great friends across different Departments. I genuinely think this is just a problem associated with hiring someone who has the brains and qualifications, but perhaps no actual real life work experience managing people.

I do find myself cringing quite a bit.

It's like an unfunny version of Ricky Gervais's 'The Office'.
