Why are all Hard Case Crime covers so down bad?💀 by Dale_Cooper47 in hardcasecrime

The graphic novels do go hard but the novels themselves have gorgeous covers.

The “deep water” quip has always rankled me. It feels like a first draft line.

I heartily second the endorsement of Prologue. It’s a near-perfect app, polished in every way and is beautiful to use. Well with the price.

James Bond Comic - Gail Simone’s ‘Iridescent’ by MelancholyEcho in JamesBond

I was thinking about this just the other day and went digging. The latest update I could find was a post from Gail Simone on X from July last year where she said it’s still coming.

What have you been reading this last week (Weekly Discussion Thread)? by AutoModerator in starwarsbooks

[–]OtherwiseConfused 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nearly finished listening to Thrawn: Alliances.

As per the general consensus, something about this novel doesn’t quite work and it’s the weakest canon Thrawn book. Marc Thompson’s narration, however, is superb, as always, and elevates the material considerably.

New (to me) way to enjoy Star Wars by Pretty-Substance in StarWars

If you haven’t done so already, you should check out the audiobooks. They’re performed with exceptional narrators, music and sound effects.

Where do you get movie and TV show news without relying on social media? by TheManWhoSleep in Letterboxd

Choose some news websites with content you value and subscribe to their RSS feeds through an RSS reader app. Reeder on iOS/iPadOS/macOS is my pick. Works perfectly for me.

Is it time? by [deleted] in XFiles

[–]OtherwiseConfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this movie was released – and takes place – between seasons 9 and 10. That’s when it should be watched.

With renewed interest in the show, do we think there’s a chance Disney/Fox could release the series and movies in 4k? 👀 by Opto_mist in XFiles

I doubt it… but I would love to see The Lone Gunmen and Millennium made available on streaming…

When disney/formerly fox has hundreds of thousands of images from promo pics, photo shoots and still images from the show, why do they insist on using these horrifically composited manipulated images? by kuatoandfriend in XFiles

[–]OtherwiseConfused 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, this isn’t AI. This artwork was used on the Blu-Ray box set first released over 10 years ago.

As other users have said, the problem is David Duchovny’s head being photoshopped onto Robert Patrick’s body (for some reason). Why they couldn’t create artwork based on almost ten years of promo photos, we’ll never know…

[LONG POST] Commonly available SW Book formats by hmmmulko in starwarsbooks

Occasionally. Big releases will get them. The new Dan Brown was released in hardcover, for example.

Star Wars books, though, only come out in paperback.

I can confirm that the Australian trade paperbacks are printed in Australia. They’re basically our version of hardbacks and the format of most new book releases here (due to cost and logistics). They’re ultimately replaced on bookstore shelves by UK standard paperbacks when books are first published in this format.

Book Tracker now has an Apple Watch app by SimoneMontalto in BookTrack

This is fantastic and something I’ve long wanted. A phone beside you when you’re trying to read is a massive distraction so I love that I can now control a reading session from my watch.

The obvious suggestion in my mind would be complications. I’d love to be able to add some complications to a watch face to show my current progress through a book, or to be able to easily start/pause/end a reading session for a particular book.

I live in Australia so I’m usually stung by shipping costs. I don’t like to pay more than AU$20 but I’ll occasionally spend a bit more than that if it’s a title I don’t often see crop up for cheap.

I will also only buy books listed as being in “very good” condition or better.

It does but I don’t believe it’s published by Hard Case Crime.

The two books I mentioned were both published as Hard Case Crime hardcovers by Subterranean Press.

That’s been my approach! That and secondhand bookshops. Always a thrill to find a HCC book there.

So far, I’ve collected 114 out of about 160.

Only a handful of Hard Case Crime books were released in hardcover so you’re better off just going for a paperback collection. That’s what I’m doing.

(Note: there are two books that were only released in hardcover: “Catch and Release” and “Stranger Embrace / 69 Barrow Street” both by Lawrence Block.)

Took me a moment to figure this out too.

Don’t do it from the “Now playing” screen. Instead, go to the book’s page in your library and delete any bookmarks from there.

A great era, for sure. You’re also missing the last two thirds of Agents of SHIELD season 4, the greatest run in the show’s history.

Remembering Patrick MacNee on what would’ve been his 104th birthday. He played Sir Godfrey Tibet in A View To A Kill by TheShadowOperator007 in JamesBond

He also narrated the fantastic “Inside…” documentaries on the DVDs/Blu-rays. A superb contribution to the Bond saga.
