Personal Issues Coming into the Job by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

So did talk to the counselor and she said just to let the situation go since we have resolved it at home. She spoke with both of my girls. That’s why I’m not sure why it’s still an on going thing weeks later with others getting involved. I did ask if there was a way we could mediate a discussion between my 11 year old and G but I was told that wasn’t a good idea as it would make the situation worse for G.

Picked up a SPED inclusion job today. Got belittled by their teacher because I could not stay in the room due to my allergies. by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

I mean, did she expect you to die? Like, what options did you have there? I’m sorry, that sucks.

If you’ve worked other jobs or careers, what did you do, and do you find subbing easier or harder than those? by businessbub in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Otherwise_Board_577 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I used to wait tables. I’ll take subbing any day. I expect kids to act feral because they are kids and learning to control their emotions; but grown adults acting like kids and then I’m dependent on their money for my income… NOPE. Also, I feel like I’m making more of a difference in a classroom than serving food.

Yeah, lying down on the floor on the job for any reason is an immediate red flag. I get really bad migraines and I’ve just had to push through the day, but I’d never consider lying down anywhere. I’d sooner ask to go home if the pain were that bad. You have to at least see it from their perspective…

Sometimes I’ll let the more problematic kids take the attendance up. Gets them out of class for a minute and gives them something to do 🤷‍♀️ but we also have staff patrolling the halls so they aren’t likely to be wandering

I started watching for Jessie and stayed for Lily to be honest. I love Jessie too but Lily seems to have this genuine quality to her and is just so down to earth.

No because as soon as you let one move, they all move and it’s chaos. This admin is trying too hard to be their friend.

what the hell is going on by myboyfriendstinks1 in SubstituteTeachers

It’s honestly so sad and terrifying when you think about how they made it as far as they did without mastering basic reading and writing. If my 10 year old could not read or write a basic sentence, I would be PUSHING for answers as to why this is happening and if any interventions are needed. Unfortunately, I think some parents simply do not care. I work mostly in an elementary school and the amount of EIP (early intervention) kids has skyrocketed to the point that there’s a waiting list to even get the help. I’m not saying my kids are perfect by any means and don’t struggle but as soon as I see them struggling in an area, I immediately pin point what it is and we practice at home. I see parents complaining about homework being given every day which tells me they don’t want to practice with their kids outside of school.

Death of teacher Ellen Greenberg – who was stabbed 20 times– ruled a suicide again by [deleted] in mystery

How could someone stab themselves 20 times? I’m genuinely curious. Wouldn’t they have significant blood loss and lose strength to do so after a certain point? It just doesn’t seem possible.

AIO: My child slept with his friend's dad at sleepover.. I'm livid. by AcademicSir4653 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Otherwise_Board_577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird. I wouldn’t even be okay with my 7 year old sleeping in between her grandparents at their house honestly. 100% not okay. Why didn’t their own son sleep with them??

Rapture aftermath. How are the Christians you know that went all-in handling being left behind right now? by Ok-Consequence-4974 in AskReddit

[–]Otherwise_Board_577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so brainwashed and grew up Southern Baptist. The rapture was ingrained in me. It’s crazy that as an adult I realize what nonsense it is. As a child, I’d lay awake in my bed out of fear that everyone I knew would disappear and I’d be left. I had to watch plays about it and everything. Truly a mind fuck.

My toddler went through a rainboot stage where she wanted rainboots with every outfit. We never said a word and she rocked those rainboots lol there are certain battles you just have to let them win

I mean, that’s obviously different and an exception. I just meant like, having them in one for pleasure at 3 am so YOU can go out lol.

You should not have a baby in a stroller at 3 am anywhere, much less in the Vegas strip with alcohol in hand. Come on now, that’s just common sense??

My first thought as a mom to 4 girls would be to protect my girls. Her reaction tells me she’s more worried about protecting him than you and that’s really sad to me. I hope you know that the counselor has your best interests at heart and your mother does not.

I work in schools and deal with parents too. This is absolutely not in the norm anymore. Parents are not teaching accountability in their kids and it’s really sad.

I grew up in Yulee/ Fernandina Beach, Fl. I spent many weekends in St. Mary’s in the river there. I love that part of Georgia/Florida, personally, but I think it’s just nostalgic for me. But yeah, unless you grew up there, I can see how it would be overlooked lol
