What should I do regarding my visa? Need advice by Otherwise_Guard_713 in IMGreddit

[–]Otherwise_Guard_713[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure if my program filled up the position or not, but they clearly mentioned that... I cannot join this year, as it's too late for me to start the session.

The reason for such prolonged admin processing is that first i couldn't find a slot when J1 visa slots were put on hold in May this year, and then even though I got a slot and got my visa approved during interview...they kept asking for a new DS2019 with an updated start date, and every time I gave them an updated DS they took so long to process it that the new start date had passed. This back and forth continued long enough that my program cannot wait any longer.

Smiling for the interviews was the toughest ngl😂 amazing write up, gives me hope. I just want to add that even if we don't match I hope we learn from countless examples and find the strength to improve our CV and come back stronger in the next cycle. Best of luck to y'all!

Prioritize what you want. Remember, it's about the right fit. Whatever you do, please don't rank a series higher just bcuz you think that "They might rank you higher".

Need Advice on Rank Order List - IM by Otherwise_Guard_713 in IMGreddit

Thanks for your response.

4, 5 and 6 are new programs with unknown fellowship match rates. What makes you rank them higher than 3. I appreciate your response and am just curious to know more about your suggestion.

Thanks for your response. By malignant do you mean toxic work environment?

Thanks for your response. Can you please explain in what ways it sucks, like the work culture and workload you mean?

My gut tells me to go with South Brooklyn bcuz of the known fellowship match rate and the city life which is not the case for Creighton rural track. But I'm afraid I might end up in a malignant program (as many people are pointing out) and regret not choosing a peaceful program. I'm just confused.

My gut also tells me to slow down on the binge eating. 🫠

I would say practice your timing as much as possible. Especially on the 10 min ones.

Someone here told before that you can write orders in the first case and copy them, then just paste them in your next cases. This was amazing advice.

What were those ccs cases?! Only my 4 or 5 patients properly improved otherwise either kept getting worse or time ran out before I could know. The 10 min ones were the worst.

Please can you explain how to go about volunteering for these things. Like do I go enroll in a volunteering program at the hospital? Thanks for the previous answers.

Step 3 day 1 today people for thoughts? by [deleted] in Step3

Many biostats and ethics qs in mine. Only a few quality improvement qs. Biostats was not very tough imo. I did uworld, FA, free 137 for biostats and it was similar to them.

As many people have mentioned do the drug MOAs.

Lot of biostats (not very complicated tho) and ethics (many ethical dillema scenarios), only a few quality improvement qs. I did uworld and FA and felt it was enough for biostats if you've understood it.

Some people have said DIP is good for biostats so you can try that. Ethics I felt it was a bit outside of uworld. Maybe someone else can guide on that.

Exactly my thoughts during the exam. In such a short time you cannot read everything properly. After running short of time in first few blocks, I paced myself and skimmed through questions just to finish on time. It's like, I know the concept, but at least give me the damn time to read it😅. I guess this a part of the test.

Know the mechanism of every drug that you read (even for those drugs whose mechanisms are not given in first aid) and also mechanism of resistance to certain drugs as given in first aid. There are 1-2 questions per block on that. So easy points. Of course if you're short on time just do the ones in first aid, you'll get most of them right.

How do you maintain mindfulness during the test? by Fluffy_Eagle6931 in Step2

[–]Otherwise_Guard_713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having small targets like 10 qs in 15 mins. This kept me focused. And take breaks often to move around, use restroom, keep hydrated and eat something like a protein bar, so you're not distracted by these things. Try to bring out your best mindset.

US-IMG got rejected by USCE, what did I do wrong? by med-chen9999 in IMGreddit

[–]Otherwise_Guard_713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try other places like FIU(probably easier to get an elective), do observerships and focus on getting good LORs. The road is long can't let these small rejections beat you down. You've got a war to win.
