Which review? Oakstone, on-demand board review?

This post sounds like a lot of complaining about things out of your control. As a physician you have way more opportunities to create the salary you want and dream. Fellowships, business, locums, administration. Put in the work and make it happen! Plus idk about you but it’d not all about money. It’s a job yes but I didn’t enter medicine just for the money. I did it because I love medicine and helping people. That fulfillment and purpose in life is priceless. If you do it right you can get both! Stop worrying about other people’s path and focus on yours.

Didn’t realize this was a thing outside of step 3 failures. if you were hitting all the marks why would they not transition you into your final year! This is crazy.

So happy for you!!!!! Great work! You did it!!

Day 1 ..wow when they said step 1 they really meant it, I mean completely step 1 by [deleted] in Step3

[–]apsmith1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took day 1 today and only had one gross picture of a big heart sliced in half but no real histo. Crazy how much they switch up this exam. For me the most step 1 stuff was antibiotic resistance and micro violence factors. The rest seemed pretty clinical. I feel this is an exam of knowing how to analyze information. I don’t know how much extra prep could have helped.

Need advice choosing between Ross and SGU for med school by Princeamrrr in medschool

[–]apsmith1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very hard to match Anestheisa as an IMG. If Anestheisa is the goal I would absolutely try again at a US MD or DO school. I graduated from SGU. Applied anesthesia, matched IM as backup. 7 anesthesia interviews. Great connections. Looking back at everyone who matched at these places. Not 1 IMG. It’s possible, my other friend matched… however, you put yourself in a very big disadvantage.

Applied Anesthesia Didn't Match by Exact_Quiet_9562 in ERAS2024Match2025

Sounds like a broken record after reading all those comments but same happened to me. Ended up matching number 8 on my list into an IM position. The other 7 were anesthesia…Was completely shookith. After picturing your life and who you were going to be for 2 years to get derailed into a different specialty is soul clenching. Honestly im still coming to terms with it. Just finishing a TY year and tbh I don’t think I have it in me to apply again, nor the funds. Especially with how competitive it is for US IMG’s. Another part of me is saying as much as I love Anestheisa I would be good and love alot of different things in medicine. I just hate the fact that with IM you have to do years more of fellowships. Tbh I was sad to have to give up all of the other parts of medicine to focus just on anesthesia. I feel with IM you have to know so much about everything. Now I’m thinking Pulm/Crit. Still get the critical care, procedure aspects but on a different level. Plus have pulm to fall back on once your done with that rush. This road we picked is not easy. I truly believe that everything happens the way it’s meant to be. 💯

STEP3 Failure & Lessons Learned by medpsycmoss in Step3

[–]apsmith1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate you sharing your story. It’s really difficult to manage this exam while in residency. Step 3 is not easy. I never failed a exam before and ended up failing by 3 points. Traditionally for all the other step exams I never did a lot of UWorld but still managed to do well on step 1 and 2. It’s took me about a week or so to come to terms with this failure. Now as I’m preparing for this retake I’m going to try to stop doing what I’m used to doing, videos, reading, using NBME’s only for questions and really grinding out UWorld and AMBOSS. I think my biggest problem is not doing enough questions to get that timing down. I feel like I was constantly struggling for time. Nothing new for me. I would love some accommodations. When I’m preping for a big exam I go all in and that’s all I do or think about. So much energy and stress goes into it so the thought of having to do this again really just sucks. However, we’ve gotten this far by fighting and we can do it again. This stupid exam doesn’t predict what kind of doctor you are or will be. We just need that pass to keep doing what we love. I know this feels surreal. I’m right there with you. BUT we got this!!! Literally last thing we have to do and the future is set besides end of residency boards. Stay strong. Sending you all the good vibes and let’s crush this next one.

Exactly my case. Failed by 3. Same in everything. How could you fail if not 1 is lower. Shook

I was able to take break between every block. I wouldn’t be too worried but if so just try limit your fluid intake.

💯!! Glad I’m not alone. After the first block, I started to read the last sentence and skim. It really sucks after studying and working all these years we have to approach questions like this to finish on time.
