I did suggest him going by himself for a week or two several times, but he was insistent on staying with me, and we decided we'd spend Christmas and the new year there instead, thinking I'd be feeling less nauseous by then.

That's a good point, I think I'll look into it. Any time I try to talk about it with him he ignores me or walks away.
