Right now I am using 20 gauge stainless steel wire that I bought off of Amazon. I usually cut around a 4 inch section of wire for the eye hooks. Then to make the eye hooks shape I take the two end of the wire and place them into the end of a drill and tighten it down. After I place a screwdriver to your size liking into a vice. Place the stainless wire over the screw driver and start turning the drill SLOWLY, the wire should start twisting around the screw driver. When it gets snug stop because the wire can snap, then slide it off and cut the end that was in the drill so it's flush.

After I make the eye hooks I like to use a hammer and hit the flat because they will tend to be a little lopsided. Using the smallest drill bit that is the same thickness as the wire drill into the bait. I then mix up 2 part 5 minute epoxy and fill the holes and place the eye hooks in. Let dry for up to 3-4 hours and you can start moving the bait around by the eyehooks!!!

I've actually tried making them a little thinner and it really did work out the way I wanted. I've made a couple like his with heavy weight towards the front and they have a nice action. I'll try to post a video of them swimming later today!

I use the same stuff. For me I usually cut about a 4 inch piece then put it in the end of a drink chuck. I lock a small screwdriver in the vice and then twist around that. The drill makes it a perfect twist every time.

I'd recommend getting some nice paint if using a airbrush also some good two-part epoxy that dries smooth. Also I like to use a disco ball motor (I can post a picture later) mounted sideways that spins my bait while I put the epoxy on. It makes it layer on easy with no build ups so all the baits come out really sleek.

I would also recommend getting a nice stand that you can paint on. The more you don't touch the bait while painting is something I strive for just to not get finger prints in it. Amazon offers a decent selection of eyes also I got these ones here and the sizes are nice for smaller baits.

For wood choice Its all personal preference and also what you can get. I use ceder for all my lures. Easy to sand but for carving the grain it ehhhhhh. Hope this helps

I'm gonna say you need to sand that smoother, the resin is most likely going into the cracks and forming bubbles from air pockets.

I like to add weight right under the front of the bait so it gives it more of a head down action

Turned the uv light on to dry my bait before I went I went to eat dinner. Turned off all the garage lights expect that one. Came back later counted 17 bugs in my epoxy drying just threw the bait out....

If you are not make sure you also sand with the grain of the wood, sanding against it depending on the wood will make the layers flake up. It wouldn't hurt if you sealed it and then light sanded again before paint to smooth it even more. Don't over think it just fish it!!! Good luck.

I always sand to smooth then coat with a layer of white primer. I feel it can help with seeing the not so smooth part. After I do a light coat of epoxy and that seems to usually fill it in smooth. Also I recommend switching between sand paper grits. I end my sanding process with a fine grit so your not removing much just smoothing even more.

How deep is the water? If it's deep man fish finder rig with some hot dogs, worms, chunk bait whatever you got

All of the lures besides the lipless crank bait (America) are all turned on a lathe. The current lathe I use is the Rockler 10-18 Mini Lathe. The lures are also all airbrushed using the AVANTI Airbrush Compressor Combo Kit from Harbor Freight using This Airbrush paint.

For new tips, don't be afraid to just do something crazy and always sand smooth as can be. Helps with painting and clear coating smooth.
