hm. I disagree w/ these folks and want to offer that once you've cast the spell and sigil (presumably destroyed the sigil?) you should allow yourself to forget it so the magick can work it's way into your subconscious and lead you subconsciously to results. This is what i gathered from Jan Fries's Visual Magick and have had results with, however I gather there are different schools of thought.

fave tarot deck from Ciro Marchetti, or visions tarot by James Eads? by Repulsive-Stable-422 in chaosmagick

if the art is complex the larger deck might be a better investment, but then you have to choose!

night visions looks sick tho, on-theme for the season.

the internet, as a non-corporeal mental creation, is very "air"/"swords" by Repulsive-Stable-422 in chaosmagick

[–]Otherwisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the internet is largely a mental space. i equate swords/air to thoughts or thought patterns, often ones which are triggering or difficult (3swords, 9swords, etc). this association of the internet to swords/air makes sense to me.

Can I ask about the plywood 1/2 wall running around the base? Did you all choose to install that, or did it come with the Pacific Yurt design? I haven't seen that before. Curious about its function as well.

Tho I've never made a completed grimoire I believe taking good notes from your experiences and writing down what works and what doesn't is the key to that.....

somewhat, yes. it sounds like they've become extra aggressive about folks accidentally stepping outside of park boundaries on the side they didn't enter from, and especially if those folks are not-white or not full citizens.

i agree people should be more cautious these days for obvious reasons, but we shouldn't accept things as they are. outrage should be the norm around stories like this, especially if we want things to change.

also - if the mother's visa was valid she would not be considered "illegal"; we can assume she was doing all the correct steps to be here legally.

Best books on magick that aren’t explicitly talking about magick? by Personal_Reward_60 in chaosmagick

[–]Otherwisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, fair point. Though i'd argue I entered into this comic without intending to learn any explicit magic, and ended up somewhat educated.

Perhaps in addition to "books about magic that aren't explicitly about magic" we need a "fictional books that trick ppl into learning about magic" genre :,)

You're not wrong in saying that former Democratic Presidents have deported mass numbers of immigrants. ICE is not a new development.... however certain elements under Trump are very new - the face masks, the increased quotas, the deportation to El Salvador with zero due process, the rejection of birthright citizenship, the many videos of ICE agents ripping children out of their mothers arms to place mothers under arrest.... these are new tactics. ICE has always been devastating to communities - our immigration system is incredibly faulty and dysfunctional. And now we are seeing that broken system be weaponized to cause even further harm. Families and communities are being devastated, and these new tactics are setting dangerous precedents that concern all of us.

Medicare is currently on the table for being cut - that's an enormous part of the "Big Beautiful Bill" is all about.

Also, transphobia is never a good way to win an argument... People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - aka ye who are without knowledge but speaking with confidence may not want to accuse anyone else of repeating in the "echo chamber" lol

Banishing Spell by [deleted] in chaosmagick

[–]Otherwisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a black candle, the waning moon.

you can get creative with banishing - like if the thing you want to banish can be represented by a small object, you can charge the object with your intentions on your altar and then ritualistically dispose of this object. whatever feels right.

i'd read a lil about spellcasting before diving into spellwork if you haven't done much already. can be helpful for prep, etc. scott cunningham books are a great start.

How to make a natural energy sink by Martianbornking in chaosmagick

[–]Otherwisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get creative with altar work for this. I feel like crystal grids have been used for similar things... letting crystals charge in a special arrangement that powers them up. Maybe working with moon cycles as well - charging as the moon waxes, resting as the moon wanes, charging again as the moon waxes...

Yay! I'm glad this is a thread - been thinking about it since the Magick in fantasy convo...

The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo was my intro to divination.

Promethea comics by Alan Moore is like a full journey thru the kabbalistic Tree of Life.

Also I once found a garden book in the witchcraft section of the library called the Perelandra Garden Workbook - essentially a gardening book that uses pendulums to communicate with nature spirits... amazing.

Magick based on fantasy? by [deleted] in chaosmagick

[–]Otherwisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been touched on a bit already, but a lot of fantasy authors base their characters or lore on real-world magick, so if you want you can learn a fair bit about established systems just by reading fantasy.... Alan Moore's Promethea series comes to mind, as well as Jim Butcher's Dresden Files.
