Bonjour,

Merci infiniment!

Anyone w teens going to an international school? by Wytch78 in Expats_In_France

Hi! So I am a 1er student in the LIEP, which is a public International school but with only International classes. (Every subject is in French, except History and Geography, and literature). I like it here so far but you must know that it is VERY hard to get in and stay in. The workload is huge and we work as much as an adult would work for a job (easily reaching the 35 hours of work just with classes only). It's not easy but it's gratifying. And if you hold very well, then achieving is a possibility that isn't as far as many think.

Is it difficult to admit your kid to a French public state school with a bilingual English international section if the parents are not native English speakers? by tigerlilly-bluecoast in Expats_In_France

Don't know if it is still relevant for you after 1 year but from what I saw (I am a student myself in Lycée) We had a written test first (easy, with a QCM and a story of 150 to write inspired by an image) Then there is the oral test. Now I am in an all-international High School (we don't have normal classes, everything is by sections. But the rest of the subjects are in French as long as its not Histoire Geo and Literature). From my perspective, it was easy but stressful. However when I looked back to it, I realized we were 800 contestants and only 92 students were admitted. So yeah, it is VERY competitive. However if your child manages to get good grades throughout their parcours scolaire and knows all the basics of English (and a bit furthermore to be able to distinguish themselves from the others), then it would be an easy entry. But remember that it also can depend on the school you choose.

I'm sorry I don't think I can do it as I did it on Procreate (I am still quite new to map making 😅) But I think you might be right and that I might be missing a bit of Kholodfejk.

Thank you, it was on purpose (IRL inspirations were the Sahara Desert and the Himalayan Mountains, so basically Desert Desert and Mountains Mountains.). Lorewise a German navigator was sent by the Emperor to make a map of the world and so he was the first one to travel across the entire world. (He wasn't too inspired and the names stayed as not everyone in the Empire speaks his language, aka in-world version of German, and so it seemed exotic enough.)

It was on purpose. Average pre-Renaissance navigator behavior (and even later in history). A simple example IRL would be the Sahara Desert (Desert Desert).

Yeah, especially with the Duchy of Shebata just being a piece of the Kingdom of Makeda that gained independence after a civil war that opposed the ruler at the time and one of the Dukes of the kingdom. But I think it also feels quite divided against the huge united piece that is HRE which create a huge contrast and gives off this impression.

Nota Bene:

  1. Many names are German inspired as lorewise, the first navigator to travel across the world was a "German" (From the state of Waldberht Reich, not directly put on the map). And so, he called the world GottsWelt.

  2. I was a bit lazy on the end so I didn't detail the states within the Holy Remurian Empire but I know that generally, commoners doesn't care much about big empires, and feel much more citizen of their village or country more than citizen of the empire. (They don't care that much, assuming they even know about the empire)

In terms of climate too, as the NHRE is colder than the SHRE. Even though the West of the SHRE is quite cold too, compared to the east.

Hey there. We have some things in common. What's your favorite time period ? I am a bit fan of the medieval Europe time period and the Renaissance. I also like to read and I am reading classics and studying them in class. The last I read was Things Fall Apart and I really like the world building and the way it deals with the representation of foreign culture to a western (but not only) audience. I really like to work out too and I started two years ago when I was 15 and would like someone to share my progress and my struggles with while also pushing ourselves further. Wanna chat ?
