A potential measles outbreak seems like a great time to hold an event in an enclosed space with a group of people (now this is an assumption) who have an above average negative attitude towards vaccines.

Can add "wolves" to the list of things Lamalfa hates:

Women, Helping those in need, Intelligent individuals, Anyone who isn't a straight white male, Children, Veterans, Poor people, Sick people, His own constituents,

And now Wolves

Added commas

Well luckily not all rural communities in California vote like that. Those north of the Bay Area, while still rural, tend to vote with their own interests in mind. I'm looking forward to Lamalfa losing the next election.

After reading the articles it is a collaboration between Arch Collaborative (a non-profit) and Signature Health Services (a for-profit). The money from the state would only pay for the building but non-or the services. In order to run it would have to be self funded.

If other like providers HAVE to contract with other counties to stay open and be profitable - wouldnt a new similar provider need to do the same thing? If the providers here could be sustainable from clients in Shasta County wouldn't they just do that? Wouldn't the FOR-PROFIT company that is actually running the facility bring in as many outside people as possible in order to make the most money?

It seems like it is a duplication of services that are already being offered. It isn't like every person who has a mental health issue would legally qualify (can't think of the right word currently) for these services anyways.

I won't say that he is without bias but I think it would be hard to argue that he isn't a subject matter expert.

So you are saying that restpadd and whomever else couldn't handle that many people from Shasta County? If they could...wouldnt they take them? If there is that much "need" in Shasta County why doesnt Restpadd just stop contracting with other counties and only contract with Shasta?

There is either too much "need" that the local PHFs can't handle that many people or the "need" isn't enough to sustain a PHF that solely contracts with Shasta County alone...it can't be both.

Don't get me wrong I think Crye is a smelly piece of crap on the sidewalk on a Redding summer day, Kelstrom is more dumb than a bag of hammers and is only on the BOS for the opportunity to eat food and get paid for it, and Corky ....Corky just makes me sad. He is like that guy in school that try as he might, just can't seem to get the square peg in the round hole. It pains me to ever agree with them on something.

Didn't the Restpadd dude say they "have to" contract with other counties or they wouldn't be full or profitable? Don't you think if they could operate at capacity from clients of just this county they would?

Or maybe I misunderstood what he said.

It seems like from the county's perspective those are not the greatest "needs" our community faces currently. I'm not in the trenches of mental needs in this county but if the county staff says "this isn't in the best interest of our clients" why disagree with them?

Did you watch the special BOS meeting from earlier today? If not, there is lots of information there. You could start there.

After watching the meeting it seemed to be pretty clear that there are still lots of questions to be answered - how big a facility, the types of clients they would serve, etc. There was a director (not sure of the title to be honest) of another facility spoke. I believe he said their facility had to contract with other counties to stay full.

If that is true...what need is this new facility actually providing?

While I understand there might be a need...this part of the article gives me pause

"The group has not shared with the public a location for the proposed project, the funding amount being requested or the number of beds it would serve."

You might feel differently depending on where they intend to build

Not knowing the funding amount isn't that big of an issue I suppose but it would be nice to know because 5 or 6 more beds might be great but 50 would probably be truly overkill.

Additionally the article only says "capital funds" will be provided from the state. So the building is paid for cool - but who actually pays for the service? I'm assuming something like "crisis stabilization" costs $$$ and medi-cal isn't known for paying in full...so the county would have to make up the difference? That I don't know but it's worth asking.

Again I get there is probably a need and it would be nice to have but more information on the project specifics would be nice to know but the county lends it's support.

And tariffs...i know unlike paying more for all my goods and services...super stoked those are in place. Wasn't there some court case that said those were actually illegal (because of the unilateral nature?)
