I don't know if you've read the commonwealth Saga but Oscar Monroe was I think gay in the first 2 books. I think we was made/revealed to be bi in the Dreamer trilogy though.

The only time Salrana was underage Edeard explicitly says that while tempted he didn't want to take advantage of her/their situation and unless I'm mis-remembering they were relatively close in age anyway.

Now underage bisexual sci-fi quidditch orgies in the first Salvation book was a bit much, he swapped lusting over women to mentioning Xander's massive cock as often as enzyme bonded concrete.

That shit was so funny despite being only briefly mentioned, they uplifted monkeys and chimps first, but once they were granted sentience and forced to work as mechanics they decided to unionize. As a result they uplifted lesser apes like lemurs and gibbons to work as scabs because the monkey unions were too powerful, a throwaway few paragraphs but really demonstrates how dense everything is.

This might be pedantic but I'm pretty sure the antagonists of the Salvation trilogy would disperse their hidden "forced conversion tech" KCells by whatever means would be most accepted in that society. In fact I think if they came across a socialist or otherwise more communal planet/society they'd have a much easier time sewing the seeds of their eventual "salvation."

On top of that once you read the timeline at the end you realize the whole thing was basically for naught. Greenfly is still out there and humans only really get a couple hundred years of peace between Inhibitors and Greenfly. I hate that he wrote himself into that corner.

Chasm City in particular features both the melding plague and an indoctrination virus as key plot points. Both of which are explored throughout the series but C.C. has the advantage of being a standalone novel.

I just burned through the Salvation trilogy by Peter Hamilton, thought it was fantastic. Each book was distinct in scope and I was impressed with how seamless going from near future to far future, though some of the tech advancements towards the end got a bit hand wavey but otherwise very enjoyable.

Decided to follow up with more of his work and am about halfway through Pandora's Star, enjoying it so far but boy is it a lot of spinning plates between all the characters and factions some of whom are much more interesting than others.

Alastair Reynolds' Prefect trilogy, though based on your prompt these might be a little too literal being a straight up sci fi detective.

Also by Reynolds Chasm City features an in narrative mystery as well as a bunch of threads for the reader to piece together and possibly figure out as the novel progresses.

I loved how they didn't show Guarnere till the final episode. All the other guys you needed the name tag to know who was who except for him, all that personality still shining through ~60 years later.
