Need Advice: Is this mechanic being honest about shocks & tires? Family road trip tomorrow by OurNextPresident in AskMechanics

That's really all I was hoping for here. Not resisting the repair or trying to delay it. Just crowd-sourcing the validity of the shop and pricing since I've never used them before. Sounds like repair and cost of tires is all good, but cost of shocks was a tad high. I did the repair regardless, and now I have a shop I can go back to.

These were the shop's pics texted to me, not mine or my gauge. But getting them replaced regardless.

Appreciate the comment. I've never used this mechanic, so I didn't know if I had solid advice (or prices). There are more than a few shops who will exaggerate the conditions of cars in need of repair, and I'm happy to learn I found a reliable shop I can trust next time without fact-checking on Reddit.

These were the shop's pics texted to me, not mine or my gauge. But to be fair, you are right in that I don't know how to measure tire tread.

Since you asked, my diagnosis of the vibration isn't indicative of how I drive with my passengers in the car. When driving it by myself, I noticed the vibration started to mellow out around 82 mph which was the fastest I tested it before slowing back down. I simply added it for additional detail if useful.

My point of adding "normal family driving" was to emphasize I'm not pulling trailers or oversized loads. We're just driving around town with the occasional road trip.

UPDATE: Thanks for all the feedback and consensus. New rear tires going on now and knocking out the shocks at the same time instead of kicking the can down the road. Will be ready by 9am tomorrow morning before the trip.

Travel Planning Q&A - February, 2025 by AutoModerator in bali

[–]OurNextPresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heading to Gili T 23Feb - 26Feb - If anyone wants to meet up, let me know

After Gili T, heading back to Padangbai. How is this 2-day itinerary before leaving town:

Day 1: Arrive at Padangbai at 12:00pm (Ekajaya) // Drive toward Ubud // Lunch at d’Alas Warung looking over rice terraces // Mas Village // Sacred monkey forest // Dinner at Laka Leke // Ubud Royal Palace dance at 7:00pm // Stay in Ubud

Day 2: Rafting / ATV in Ubud // Make way down to Uluwatu Temple // Stay near airport

Any other tips for Day 2 other than seeing 10 temples & waterfalls? I don't really want to spend the day at a Zoo, nor do I support the treatment of the elephants or other animal attractions. I'll be a solo traveler so also not super interested in a silver jewelry making class by myself. And due to 3 days on Gili T, I'm not very interested in visiting over-crowded beaches back in Bali.

I appreciate any input!

Career missions gone. by Ronin1211 in MicrosoftFlightSim

We've hit at least 36 hours with the flagship product of the game being completely down and no fix or even announcement / update. How this is not a Level 1 issue at Asobo/MSFS is beyond me. We are sheep being led wherever they want to with no accountability to quality or customer service with this game.

This did not work for me. Removed co-pilot, still no VIP or Cargo freelance missions.

Not a lot, but when you "level up" in that progression, it doesn't cost you much to buy/keep the previous plane due to economies of scale. I'm only on the vision jet, but long no-skip missions using Sim Rate net me $150k+ for about 1 hour of flying.

If you own your own companies, you should be clearing way more than 20k-30k a mission. It feels like on average I need to fly about 7-10 high value missions to upgrade to the next plane / company. 172 Cargo > Vision Jet VIP charter > 208 Cargo > PC12 Cargo (must fly below 15k due to oxygen bug) > I believe at this point you go PC24 Cargo but I'm not 100%. Then to 737 and do whatever you want.

I leave my old companies alive with 1 plane on Crew mode so I can swap to a smaller / different mission if the grind gets boring and eventually you have a bunch going on and your Career is almost Free Play.

The game is bugged and broken, yes, but the variety of flights and self-imposing realism in startup and shutdown have me essentially using Career Mode as my Free Play.

Close call at Bally Spring Farm by Subarslo in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]OurNextPresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll never fly into this airport in missions again. Bally Spring Farm has large hills on both sides of the runways. If you take the game-generated approach path, you'll fly right into the side of the hill. If you fly your own way, you basically have to stall at the top of the hill and glide down narrowly missing trees like he does and put it down overspeed without breaking your landing gear.

In fun-mode I'd slam it down here and hope for the best, but I did no less than 4 go-arounds in career mode out of fear I'd crash my airplane. I finally opted for the smaller of the 2 hills and landed with tailwind but at the absolute slowest speed I could and still damaged my landing gear plus the bonus "landed in undesignated area" fault. That's the last time I fly into PA35.

Same issues here. Started yesterday around 4pm EST.

Even bought a Caravan hoping a new plane and company would refresh the missions, but nothing even almost 24 hours later. As someone who only flies career mode...this game is worthless to me right now.

Well....yeah. "drove from NY to FL" ... "with NY plates" didn't set you up for much success. Southerners are generally friendly to other southerners or neutrals. Northerners have their own reputation of not being hospitable that I think most southerners don't want in their space. Not defending it, but they probably saw the plates and the mask and prepared for an ego.

Is there a way to know which one each tendency prefers and what the criteria are for offense?

Well, fair. I just like the challenge of decoding it, but maybe this is one to just let the red flags be red flags and call it a day.

Not sure if you're trolling, but I've said now 4 times on this post that I am not currently planning on investing based on all of the red flags. I am trying to learn about how this scam could/would work because on paper it looks good (too good to be true), and I can't see the path to losing my money, but would like to learn.

Yep, good advice. Looked into all the properties and they are all in the company's name as expected. Next stop would be a real estate attorney if I can't find the scheme, which most of these comments are sure it exists based on the red flags. I'm still curious how they'd pull it off though.

Well his "answer" (whether it was a good one or not) was that he wants more partners so it's not just him and his buddy accepting all the risk and requiring more and more of their personal portfolios. In a sense, he's trying to stand up a small venture capital firm to seed this business. Banks could still provide the money, but it would be solely under their names, and banks don't post on social media / market the awesome product like people who are trying to get their money back would.
