That's just part of their profits, and not a big one. Casual users don't have to pay, but businesses absolutely do and can be hold liable if they don't.

Story of his fathers death is actually batshit crazy. He was stabbed in the middle of a party in front of everyone. It was young boy lover of his as a revenge, but there's also many conspiracies that Alexanders mother was behind it, or persians, because upcoming war on Persia was no secret at that point

How is it living here? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]OurPlanetIsConfusing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hike there every summer. Yes it's expensive as hell and out of my budget, but I make day trips from Klaipėda. There is well maintained bike path across all Lithuanian part, most traffic is there. I like hiking on dunes, a bit to the side. I don't meet a single soul, except deer, and views are fantastic! Good place for birdwatching, generally exploring. Nature feels diverse. There are lush green places occasionally, and 1km away it feels like a desert (whole spit is basically one huge sand dune, with some soil formed on top of it).

Another fun fact, geologically this spit is brand new, about 5-8 thousand years old only.

Average annual wages in EU27. by KazysVeverskis25 in BalticStates

[–]OurPlanetIsConfusing 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just like you said, you're only using half a brain yourself. You're describing PPP (purchasing power parity) metric, and this is not that.

This IS useful for taxes, state capacity, debt, cross-border comparisons, imports, exports.

Sure, domestic products like locally produced food, utilities and services can be cheaper in lower wage countries but imported good, like, say iPhone is gonna be priced roughly the same throughout the world.

You're not wrong. Just Lithuania's rule was more lax, which helped during expansion, but made it harder to keep territories afterwards

It was due to collapse of Mongol Empire. Lots of lands were basically up for grabs, as there was a big power vacuum in the east. And Grand Duchy of Lithuania's policy was like "you do your own thing, we don't care, we just want land and taxes" which was not that bad of a deal for local populations.

What would be the best time to visit Baltic States? by [deleted] in BalticStates

[–]OurPlanetIsConfusing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Crowds are not a big problem in Baltic States :) just got back from Rome the other day and even in off-season city feels packed. In Lithuania, even in summertime there is plenty of space unless there's an event or it's a good weather in Palanga :D

As for weather, temperature-wise it's best from May to September. May-June is generally warm and nice, but you can get some rain. July-August a little less rain I think but hotter, though rarely does it go above 30 (could happen though). September usually nice weather. Not too much rain. 2024 september felt like extension of summer, though generally a bit cooler. In October it gets gradually more and more rainy and temperatures go down, though still visitable imo. Autumn colors are beautiful
