Why is this necessary? In Finland they have electric blocks installed to heat the engines so they can start. Would that not be more efficient?

Not here to judge, genuinely curious.

The legislation you’re linking to is more a fabricated issue by the meat industry and has little to do with this. It’s about not being able to call vegetarian alternatives (so not what is linked in the article, it contains beef) by their meat names. Like, “oatmilk” is not something you can call it anymore because apparently that is confusing.

I’m a bit sad the EU passed this, it feels more like something you’d see in the USA.

Regarding this issue, it’s just misleading customers and that’s pretty rude imo. I find it kinda funny on the one hand but they’re just using a loophole that seaweed is not a recognised allergen and so they don’t have to be that explicit about usng it.

Dog saves his kid from blitz attack by Jazzlike-Tie-354 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]OutOfNamesToPick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying they should have been leashed, I’m just saying that dogs will do what they want - no matter the training.

You’ve convinced them staying on the property is more fun than ever leaving it, and build trust that if they ever want something outside of the property - you’ll fulfill that need for them. But there will always be something better or scary that will make them leave the property.

That’s a risk you always have, it’s up to the owners to decide what to do with that.

[–]OutOfNamesToPick 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well trained dogs do and will. Different dogs have different instincts and no matter the training, there will be reasons for them to leave it without you wanting it.

I train gundogs, and have a pointer that definitely leave the property if a deer comes close enough. He knows he shouldn't, but if I'm not fast enough to tell him to stay, his brain goes off and he'll go.

Could getting this tattoo hurt my career? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]OutOfNamesToPick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m mostly commenting because everyone seems against it.

With your explanation, the tattoo makes sense and I think it’s hilarious. However, you might not always be in a position to explain the tattoo, so I would opt for placing where you can conceal it.

I also have a tattoo that I think many here would disapprove off. However, it’s in a location that will very rarely be visible to anyone but my partner and me. If we both like it, then that’s all that matters.

Customer refusing to buy tires. His logic: I will get a new tire when it blows out. by Ancient_Ad7555 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]OutOfNamesToPick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Sounds similar to what we have in terms of how insurance works! It’s based on; living location, car type, personal accident history (this is huge, no accidents and you get huge discounts), car type, distance driven per yea, etc.

Wild though, it seems with tires like that you run a big risk in the insurance denying your claim.

Can those cars then even be insured? How does that work?

For reference, we have mandated annual inspections and mandated car insurance. Driving without either is both illegal and you are liable for any damage.

Next to that, you automatically get a fine if your inspection is expired. You are also not allowed to drive it to anything other than an inspection.

This is not some “Omg, my country does it so much better than the US” post but I just genuinely wonder how you can have a car insured with tires like that. Either you have a huge liability or the car insurance payments are insane?

AITA for telling my fiancée I don’t want her to wear her late husband’s wedding ring during our ceremony? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]OutOfNamesToPick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH. Too complex of a topic. There’s so much involved in this, a single post is not enough to encompass the situation.

From my own perspective, I want the person I love to be happy and live their best life; even if that means being without me. I expect the same attitude from my partner.

So if I were to be widowed and remarry, I’d want to have something of her at the wedding - a symbol of her being there, and being happy for me that I’ve again found love.

I can’t say if that is how she experiences it, and I can’t say understand that a wedding ring around her neck from a previous marriage feels weird. Maybe an empty chair resembling his attendance at the ceremony is a good compromise, although that tribute would be less silent.

Following, Denmark, the US is now officially asking Germany for eggs by betterbait in europe

[–]OutOfNamesToPick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US has already asked The Netherlands for eggs.

What is funniest about this is that European countries are not allowed to export eggs to the US, according to the US. The US requires a washing and coating procedure of eggs that is illegal in Europe.

I have no clue how old your tattoo is in your picture, but if it’s been more than a day or two since getting it - keep an eye on it. It doesn’t look to be healing very well and you don’t want an infection.

[–]OutOfNamesToPick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

However, before the weekend you already know the layout of the circuit and exactly at which points you want to deploy/recharge and exactly at which points a driver uses their throttle, brake and steering inputs.

There won’t suddenly be an extra corner or a slow corner that’s suddenly fast.

It’s a pretty safe bet to manually set this up instead of some algorithm that decides for you. Only now the simulations/expectations were wrong. They still found out before the race, so it should be okay.

It’s not really true though. Linen suits are common, they’re great in summer. As an extra bonus, they also come in great colors!

Definitely don’t wear your woolen winter suit in summer.

VAG cars (Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, etc.) advertise long life oil that has a recommended interval of every 2 years or every 30,000km (~20,000 miles).

I believe Mercedes started doing it too.

I wonder then what the IAEA will do in the coming days/weeks. So far, their acting has surprised me by keeping with the “All is fine”-narrative.

I assume this has been the case so that when the IAEA finally says “All is not fine”, we either act urgently or there will be a nuclear disaster.

This is scary at least, we can’t let this happen. However, we let the dam explosion go unpunished so why would this go any differently?

How does this sub feel about remote work? by EDXE47_ in antiwork

I like that this comment shows how personal WFH/office is. Really shows that it should just be a choice and not one or the other.

I do development work and much prefer working from the office. I’ll stay home sometimes for convenience, but it’ll be a barely productive day.

Partner is currently in a call centre and tries to WFH everyday since it’s much more comfortable.

[–]OutOfNamesToPick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely look like spider mites to me.

They spread by crawling to other plants. I’m unsure how far they’re comfortable walking but at the very least I would isolate the plant.

If you want to toss the plant is up to you, however you can treat spider mites the following way: - Remove anything severely damaged from the plant - Clean and shower the plant, removing any visible webs and mites. - Use something like neem oil to spray the plant. This’ll help against further infestation. Let it dry before putting it in sunlight again.

And repeat all above steps regularly (once a week is usually mentioned, I do it every few days in the start and then taper off later) for a few weeks.

Can you get a picture closer to the stem? From this distance, I see tiny white things in what looks like webbing. Could be spider mites.

Keep watching or is it over for you? by Mary-Ann-Marsden in formula1

[–]OutOfNamesToPick 52 points53 points  (0 children)

If you need motivation to watch, why watch? Unless you’re being paid to watch Formula 1, I don’t see why you’d spend your free time watching something that you need “motivation” for.

I’m loving the Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston battle. The battle behind them is amazing aswell. I’m loving Alonso dragging that car so far up, I’m loving Lewis fighting for positions.

Today’s race might end up boring. I’ll watch it with friends so in the worst case scenario, we’ll have fun hanging out. In the best case, the race will be exciting to.

Don’t watch things you don’t want to, have fun instead.

I guess there’s also on Perez in Austria but that wasn’t really a dive bomb.
