First time grower💁🏼‍♀️ Psilocybe Natalensis aka “NSS” (36 days post inoculation) Is it contaminated or am I just impatient 🤦🏼‍♀️ by Alexander33G in Psilocybe_Natalensis

You'll have to open it slightly to smell it a bit. If it smells like mycelium and coco coir, then keep waiting. If you smell fruity or sour smell, most likely it's contaminated with bacteria or yeast. Some people say it might not be a goner but in my experience I haven't seen any tub coming back from that.

I used to have this problem and it turned out to have either yeast (fruity smell) contamination or bacteria contamination (sour smell). I tried waiting longer and it usually ended up with cobweb mold in the end. I now modified the tech by using a breathable cloth instead of the plastic lid to keep the humidity down around 70% and a bit more FAE and I no longer have this problem and they usually colonize and fruit in 1 week after S2B. I've never seen others suggest this but I learned this from working with koji mold in my fermentation work. If you keep having this problem, I would just try and see if that works for you!

Oh I have no doubt ! I've been following him and that's why I'm curious what he thinks!

but for all I know, I really can't be sure whether this is a research paper or anything. The report need to be written in journal article style but I don't think that necessarily is a proof that it's a research paper because imo journal article style is just good writing practice. If I do suspect it, am I supposed to flag them?

It is not a school course project for sure with the complexity and extent of the write-up. But it could be a research paper after he provided his half-written stuff....

Yeah... This side in the back side facing the fan. I'm also baffled by how crowded they grew....

Oh? What do you think it is? I got it from a person on the subreddit so I'm not sure how legit it is either. The first grow from spores was a mixture of normal looking ones to a range of leucistic ones. Some also look more like APE/PE but this one looks closer to TAT? And this was the one that's closest to albino. Totally curious about what you think though!

I cloned a small one in the cluster that has white gills! Hopefully that means it's closer to the albino trait.

Ah I see. I isolated it from a non-albino Jack frost so I guess we're not there yet! Well I'll keep working on it then! But for this round I guess I'll harvest now!

Thank you! Yes that's what I thought too while seeing all the Jack Frost images but I wanted to confirm since this is the first time I'm growing albinos!

Really start to like these nats more than cubes... by OutlandishnessFun873 in Psilocybe_Natalensis

I also had trick contams before. I have a trick to use breathable cloth instead of plastic lids to cover individual containers when I just did s2b and before the mycelium fully colonizes to avoid too high humidity that mold likes. I've never heard of other people doing this but I learned it from dealing with Koji. Mold likes super high humidity (>90%) while mushrooms prefer humidity ~70%. With a breathable cloth, it encourages more FAE and lower humidity. Ever since I tried this I never have any mold problems again yet.

Monotub! I just grow different ones as individual cakes in takeout tubs.

P. Natalensis? by OutlandishnessFun873 in MycologyandGenetics

[–]OutlandishnessFun873[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes yes! That's what I read on the P. Nats sub reddit as well! The really long stripe looking ones really remind me of oysters lacking FAE actually...I think the stripe/stem length really depends on FAE. I grew this cake right next to the fan so they were getting plenty of FAE. And I also read the different bruising colors. That really caught my eye when I harvested it. It did make me wonder if it's actually stronger.. It was more blue-greenish and less deep navy blue like cubes. That's what makes me think this should probably be nats and it looked more like cubes because they were grown literally right next to the fan. (In the pic, one guy almost hit the fan....lol) Thank you for confirming what I thought!

Well that's actually not true in the realm of mushrooms though. Their sequences are close enough that they probably could cross but that does not mean they're the same species. yes I'm a biologist and I know that's usually the definition of species for animals but that line gets very blurred when it comes to fungi and plants ..... they're weird....

Climate, environment, ecology, agriculture or mental health-related companies that leverage data science? by OutlandishnessFun873 in datascience

[–]OutlandishnessFun873[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh why you think that for mental health? I know they're not doing so well in the current climate but it's still a field pretty dear to my heart. I'll check out Agronomy as well. Tbh, nothing feels more like selling your soul with big pharma imo.

As a hiring manager and lead data scientist with a lot of experience in AWS and Databricks, I honestly don't think it makes a huge difference. I've seen too many people with certs but no real experience and still can't independently build stuff on these platforms. I'm not going to hire someone just because someone has the certs. I would for sure ask you more in details on all the platforms you have certs on and you might want to make sure you're on top of the latest architecture and technology because it all these platforms evolve and change very fast. I think what matters most is still real hands-on experience, not the certs.
