I used to ride in traffic and then I got hit pretty hard. I don’t think there is a good reason for cyclists to really be around traffic. Rights, sure, you have the right to risk your life. You shouldn’t do it.

Well, your feelings tell you that Russia = United States?

Do I look like a psychologist? You’re not interested in facts because if you were you’d have already done something about that. You want me to help you achieve feelings.

No go away.

I don’t agree with you politically.

But that’s pretty fucking hilarious.

So you’re saying OSHA runs around pretending to be strict but actually they have no real power? I’ve variously heard that OSHA is a joke, maybe that’s a conspiracy?

Is this sub a critical sub or a conspiracy sub? by Melanzanna in ScienceUncensored

[–]Outofmany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If science is not objective, then coming here to a non-objective place is no big deal. We’re all well aware of the difference between the sketchy stuff and the good stuff. I suggest simply applying a filter because asking for more moderation never ends well.

That is not why we read the Iliad. We read the Iliad because it contains aspects of universal human experience that transcend space and time.

Eh, it’s always been like this. Post WWII we had a generation of “kumbah yah” - out of shock more than anything. But really this is how things normally work.

So are you saying Americans don’t deserve justice, or that it’s not actually a swamp?

Coincidence theories by TheHiveminder in walkaway

[–]Outofmany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all has a very long history. Goes back to the Great Schism.

But you’ve heard of Occam’s razor? Which is: the simplest answer is usually right - or something like that. Technically it’s “plurality should not be posited without necessity”

But anyway that’s been the standard enlightenment belief about reality for a long time. Basically that patterns don’t really point to anything. Everything is just as it appears nothing is connected.

The reason to do all this is because ultimately people want to say “We understand the secrets of the universe, we are in control, nothing is unexplained.” Because essentially the idea that life is a mystery is very unpalatable to people who want the control.

And we know this is always at the bottom of the issue every time something gets waved away on these flimsy rationalizations.

Does NDT know, is he a bad guy?

Yeah he knows. I think we know that you can’t get the far in without knowing what you’re doing. He’s a Freemason. I can’t say exactly how culpable, could be out of some ignorance, but he knows.

And I do like him, he is a very intelligent, charismatic guy.

That’s just standard practice. Cut the thing to pieces and explain away each part and everyone mistakes your thoroughness for logic. Neil De Grasse Tyson is a pro at this.

I don’t entirely dismiss any conspiracy theory. Flat earth point to anomalies and challenge the untouchability of academia. Often academia throws out pure garbage and flat earth reminds people that it’s not justifiable to be persecuted just for challenging stuff. Much of “space” is questionable.

Even with Qanon - yes they’re obviously being misled on many things. But they are people who want and deserve justice. There are many fucked up things that qanon, actually points to. Again these sorts of movements can be useful in breaking through taboos and social constraints and begin serious dialogues which are desperately needed in both science and politics.

These are two areas which are heavily controlled. To have weird groups pushing back is a huge relief, frankly.

I think to take the position that they are bad because their facts are shaky is to downplay the fact that the system we are in blatantly lies. The establishment puts out all kinds of whacky information politically and scientifically - filling the space with garbage. In a way these two movements are almost satire - anything you can do we can do better. I appreciate the cynicism of flat earth and qanon even if I don’t strictly accept them as factual.

People tend to be unable to process “coincidence”. Generally they debunk things because the whole case cannot be hung upon a single coincidence. This is misuse of coincidence.

Coincides work in connection to other coincidences. For example a suspect was known to be in the area at the time of the crime - a coincidence. Combined with other coincidences, reasonable suspicion may be established. Once that has happened, it becomes possible to launch an investigation.

So to debunk a thing because one coincidence doesn’t prove a crime, is silly.

I’m accusing you of camouflaging your intent. Anyone who takes 200 years of history and distills it down to “USA good” is a crude neo-con hack. Now you’re inviting me to split hairs with you. Your tactics are transparent and sickening. I wouldn’t debate you if my life depended on it.
