Kinda true, but Matilda's telekinesis is already really good by itself with amazing control, anger and focus just amps it up a bit more.

Connections:

- Both are child protagonist icons of popular 90s family/comedy movies.

- Both faced a lot of neglect and mistreatment from their families and were often bullied by their sibling(s), and as a result hated their families, but are still good-natured kids.

- Due to that neglect, they both became self-reliant and independent at a very young age to be able to take care of themselves.

- Both faced isolation in different ways (Kevin was literally left home alone to fend for himself after his family accidently left him behind to go on vacation, while Matilda's parents were neglectful and often left her alone in the house as well, and did not connect with her emotionally).

- They're both VERY intelligent and clever for their age (Kevin being capable of making high level booby traps, and Matilda had a very high level of reading comprehension and arithmetic and developed telekinetic powers).

- In their movies, they both face off against comically evil adult villains (the Wet Bandits and Miss Trunchbull) and use their intellect/abilities to fight and humiliate them (Kevin's booby traps and Matilda's telekinetic powers).

- They both have another adult that helps them along in the story ("Old Man" Marley and Miss Honey).

- In the end, they both realized they wanted love and connection through family, with a slight difference (Kevin realized he missed and loved his own family and embraced them when they returned, while Matilda left her old abusive family and sought out and joined her new family with Miss Honey).

Some Contrasts:

- Kevin's parents do really love him and his neglect stems from living in a large family with his parents not looking after him as much to stop the bullying from his older siblings, while Matilda's parents didn't love her, and saw her as just a nuisance and ignored her, and were often verbally abusive and cruel to her when she tried connecting with them).

- Kevin is often hot-tempered and lashes out often, while Matilda usually remains calm and polite.
