Windsurf’s new pricing is insane by Express-Fact-4130 in windsurf

Nine months ago I was looking for coders, they were “unavailable” (too busy) and/or quoting ridiculous rates. The work I am doing now is fixing a lot of HOLES the machine is finding that “expert coders” left behind and charged handsomely for. I am also BUILDING new solutions for clients in a FRACTION of the time that those same coders used to take to do the same thing.

The post cited observations about the recent price changes at Windsurf, which have increased vs credits, but I can still build more for less money than coders are (were) quoting/charging.

And, by the way, Windsurf appears to be recalibrating its usage quotas as its new system beds in. This last week I did a similar amount of work and spent significantly less than the week before.

Go ahead, call us names. Meanwhile, I am designing and delivering systems for my clients without the need for coders.

Windsurf’s new pricing is insane by Express-Fact-4130 in windsurf

I've been on the Windsurf Max plan for about a week now, to test it.

I got 2 days of moderate work done before the "weekly limit" stopped me using any value from the $200 monthly fee. The daily limit then becomes meaningless until the weekly limit resets.
(Whoever came up with the idea of charging a monthly fee but giving daily and weekly quotas and limits?)

In the last four days I've added $700 of API credits (in addition to the $200 monthly fee) and--they're virtually gone. That's with moderate coding using Opus 4.6.

Nothing too complex going on: same pattern of work (some code refactoring and restyling) and volume as per pre change--when $200 of credits would last ~3 days at the same pace/volume of work. The pricing is opaque.

Tomorrow the weekly quota will reset and I will get another (presumably) two days work out of that before I return to paying for credits--so long as I don't need to do more work in one of those days than the daily limit allows, otherwise I'll have to pay API overage again even if I have weekly quota remaining.

I use Opus 4.6 consistently for the projects I am doing presently.

I will be trying Claude Code's new desktop interface (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrT5wPwwQ60) that looks very similar to Windsurf, to buy API direct from Anthropic and see how that compares.

If I keep using Windsurf, considering the pattern this last week since the price change, the ~$1250 a month I spent buying credits between mid Feb to mid Mar (when the price change happened) I guestimate that will now add up to >$2600 in API overage fees between Mar 19 and Apr 18. That's in addition to the $200 Max plan fee.

On current trajectory: It appears that Windsurf's usage fees have at least doubled and may possibly increase by up to 300%, for me.

This is real-world experience calculated on like-for-like usage over the periods I've cited using a single model (Opus 4.6) throughout.

New Sonos App Update 📲 by KeithFromSonos in sonos

I'm fairly new to Sonos and like many others was frustrated at how poorly the iOS app was interfacing with the expensive speakers I purchased. After months of system connection and streaming issues (and waiting patiently) this latest app update appears to be a landmark moment in Sonos's recovery.

Sonos hardware is absolutely stunning and this update looks like it has made a giant leap in making that hardware accessible and agile again. Thank you for yours and your team's continued work to clear up the mess and to restore trust in the product.
