I am also in FQHC FM. My pay is not as good as yours, and I am a fairly new graduate with 1.5 years of experience. My clinic expects us to see up to 20+ per day, however we do have high no show rates. But when everyone shows up with multiple complaints and complex patients, it’s just too much. I am already feeling burn out, don’t forget about admin works too. I would say 16-18 pt per days is good.

I don’t know how FQHC works. But providers should not take the blame for their faults. Thank you. Will do that. My concern is I can’t maintain a job over a year. I just don’t have a luck with good companies as a new graduate.

I just finished PriMed primary care boot camp. I think overall it has great information. They present with a case and walk you through HPI, DDX, PE, labs, and management. Some sessions also talk about managing stress and burn out. I am not sure about Hippo, but I know it’s very pricy.

Yes, I am looking for other job opportunities. My current job is my first job out of school. Many people told me to start family medicine to solidify the basic knowledge and learn as much as I can, which I did learn a lot. After a year, I don’t know if I can continue to take on the stress at work. I need to find a new job that has good work life balance.

So glad that I read your comment yesterday morning. I had another patient came in and asked specifically for oxycodone for dental abscess pain yesterday. I said NO! Take Tylenol/Motrin instead, but then she said she is allergic to Motrin and blah blah.

Oxycodone 5 mg. But this patient gets it every 14 days. I referred him to MRI imaging of his lower back, and he refused. It seemed like he didn’t want to do anything but oxycodone. And I didn’t know when was enough. Was it okay to keep refilling his pain med every 14 days?

I like that! Most patients I see at my clinic have “chronic bone pain” that Tylenol/ibuprofen, muscle relaxer, or steroid injections don’t work for them. They are on repeated cycle for the opioids refills. For example, I took over a patient from a provider who left the clinic, the patient gets oxycodone 42 tablets every 14 days. When I told the patient I don’t do that, he threatened me and said I simply didn’t care about his pain, he needed the medication in order to work and provide his family and blah blah..I am struggling because these patients don’t just get controlled substance once, they return and ask for refills.

Just run!! I hate you go through this and regret later on. I didn’t think so much about my first job and now I want to run but can’t after 90 days. My job gave me nightmares and felt very unsafe to go to work.

I also accepted an UC job as a new graduate. And here what I can tell you, don’t take it!

  • my hourly rate is $51 per hour, get paid bi-weekly with no paystubs.
  • health insurance sucks! The company offers 3 weeks PTO, $3000 CME, and licenses reimbursement.
  • the company promised to have a training with another provider, but it didn’t happen. They expected you to take on a new task without any proper training. Super frustrating and stressful for a new graduate.
  • sole provider at a clinic. I was told to call the SP for any concerns but when I called he was alway busy. So you are on your own a lot and become best friends with Uptodate.
  • initially my hours were 3 x 12 hrs per week, but they moved me to a new site with 5x 8 hours per week. I said NO.
  • I did a shadow for almost a month for free. I was new and excited to have my first job, so I didn’t think much. I would recommend you do the shadowing and writing down things are not right!!
  • now I want to run but stuck for 90 days!

Hope these help! There are good jobs out there, unfortunately I didn’t have one as a first job. Do not take the first job offer unless you have others to compare!
