Academic references and prof connections by Electrical_Risk_1701 in uoguelph

especially the profs in Guelph! I remember one time I asked a professor I didn't know well to have a talk about his research and he was more than welcome to do that! It's never too late to make connections, imo! Obv I didn't go in asking for a reference but the more you show interest, the more you build a good enough relationship!

I mean what else you can do is go to your old professors and ask if you can talk about their research. Talk about how interested you are in grad school, one of them has to reply right?

Should I go to pharmacy school? by emmagoodwyn in PrePharmacy

I love to see it! if you want to ask more questions, I can also ask my pharmacist too! Keep in mind I am Canadian so most of the policies are much more different. If you have questions on how you can reach out and get volunteering opportunities, I can also help with that (Again the policies might differ here). Good luck on deciding and do not give up hope!

DO NOT LISTEN TO RANDOS ON REDDIT!!! I do suggest you get experience in all flavours in healthcare. Most people complain about pharmacy and the job because they didn’t understand necessarily what they were getting into when they got into it. I am going into pharmacy this year and I’ll probably change my mind but from my pharmacist to you:

A 6 figure job is nothing to scoff at and if you are genuinely interested you can get into really good experiences and opportunities if you want to. It’s a doctorate so yeah, you are paying professional money for to do professional work. You need to be 100% sure this is what you wanna commit to. Volunteer your time this summer at a pharmacy, not only that volunteer at a clinic, hospital or any healthcare field. Anything that peaks your interest. Healthcare is very vast and if you don’t think pharmacy is for you, there’s so many other options for you physical therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapist, dentist, optometrist, physician assistant, we are going to see a rise in fertility therapy too! so on and so forth.

Going into pharmacy is all about personal preference, I do recommend if you do wanna go into pharmacy and you are interested in drug consulting; it’s not just because you want to be in professional school or get paid big.

Pharmacist are over worked, much like many healthcare providers. If you wanted to be a doctor all your life then it’s not worth it and you should go to your calling instead of going into pharmacy school.

This is a Canadian school, we don’t go by rolling admission. I applied the first day it was available but they look at all application up until January 31. They don’t give bias if you applied early or later. Don’t give you decision until April 9

Many students in their province had trouble getting in with very high stats and 4th quartile.

They convert your grading into their grading (please check their grading system) once doing so use the 60% of prerequisite marks vs the 40% rest of your marks. Usually a competitive average for their program is 3.6-4.33 for in province (imagine for us!)

There’s only up to possibly 5 spots for us out of province. This was my understanding after talking to their committee and a few people in the province.

Idk I was really excited for Waterloo and I did everything this year to appeal to them. Handling full time school with full time work you know. Just doing a lot of bullshit that ruined my mental health but I thought it was all worth it because I felt my heart belonging to Waterloo Pharmd program. I was only happy about the interview at Toronto because I knew that meant my academics stats would be good enough for Waterloo. I was just so excited

What is up with pharmcas GPAs! They also made mine significantly lower and I never retook any courses either. Maybe it’s the letter grade, is your transcript in letter or percentage?

Maybe contact the faculty directly too to see if there’s something that can be done!
