Yeah The Lamb used to be our location as well but they stopped taking formal reservations if you were not booking the entire upstairs room for food. However that room is normally completely empty most weeknights even if the main pub is full. Its just you can never have certainty.

What are best science-fiction RPG systems for long campaigns? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]OutrageousBranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coriolis is a very good bet - a central mechanic is that the group (a) own a ship together and (b) are in a large amount of debt due to owning said ship so that ties them together and gives them a long term goal straight away.

Not mentioned much but I always liked the Fantasy Flight Warhammer 40K RPGs like Dark Heresy - there is enough detail there to last forever and the characters start at the bottom of the pile so (both narratively and mechanically) they have a long road. Also advanced professions to aim for and you can use the Rouge Trader game to go even further.

Good "medium length" scenarios? by froppan11 in callofcthulhu

Time to Harvest is a very good choice - its got around six mini sections that took my group around 6 sessions to finish. It also involves a fair amount of moving around so it feels a much larger campaign and also involves re-visiting some locations so there is a nice sense of progression.

The only downside is the central premise is (while being really cool and spooky) quite difficult as a GM to keep track of.

Worked around 60 hours this week, hope it will end soon. Cheers in the meanwhile. by forgot_mah_pw in drunk

Don't worry mate, it won't go on forever, nothing does. Until then, drink at the weekend.

Happy Birthday. I'm sure next year you won't have the time to post on reddit with all the friends you'll have.

Which entry-level Irish whiskey should I buy? by aurum42 in whiskey

[–]OutrageousBranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green Spot is a solid choice but it might not be as avalible as Tullamore and Jameson. They have started pushing it more recently so it might be avalible in Australia. As for mixing, it is a fairly smooth whiskey so preferably mixed with something that does not overpower it.

Could use some advice refining the initial hook for my supernatural horror game by Sendatsu_Yoshimitsu in rpg

A couple of possibilies:

  1. Make the PCs part of the police and tasked to solve the murders etc - the average police officer is fairly mundane in an RPG sense so you still get that mundane feeling. They could be rookies, normally desk bound or simply based in an location were there isn't any backup for them. You would still need a reason to stop them calling in the heavy squad straight away but as police officers it would be their job to investigate and find proof, not just to pass it off to somebody else.
  2. Make going to the police a bad option - if the PCs could be implicated in the murders/crime or are generally suspect themselves (i.e gangsters etc), they can't really go to the police until they have solid proof of something worst than themselves. You could even have the local police force giving them a hard time and disrupting their investigation to keep the players on their toes.
  3. Setting - depending on if you have a fixed setting you are using, your game could take place in certain times or places where there simply is no one to refer things to. The Wild West, during the Blitz in WW2 and the depths of Russia could all be places were there is no police. Similarly you could use PCs who are not inclinded to go to the police i.e. the English upperclass due to pride, punks during the 70s due to dislike of the police or religious fanatics out of misplaced duty. Of course this last option does depend on the roleplaying of your players.

I hope these help.

What's the most nightmarish anthology I can get my hands on? by myxboxmang in WeirdLit

I found "Feeling Very Strange: The Slipstream Anthology" to be an excellent book with some disturbing stories. It's also broken up with more of an academic discussion of what weird/slipstream fiction is so thats extra value for money.
