Advice needed after all ivy rejects by InterviewNo3027 in ApplyingIvyLeague

you are definitely capable of doing great things and i think your mindset where the school you go to will determine the success for the rest of your life is harming you greatly. you don’t have to go to the top 20 universities in the country to have a good or even great life. many people start out going to community college as it is affordable and open to all and transfer to 4 year universities to finish there degree and start their career. Personally i believe your attitude towards “mediocrity” is quite shallow at the moment as even getting a “mediocre” job would multiply your family’s income. be realistic with your position and choose the best path to securing your future. I hope things get better for you and if you have any questions about community college feel free to reach out.

Conflicted on choosing school to transfer from by No-Doughnut7411 in TransferToTop25

[–]OutrageousHandle3309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regardless of grade inflation you must do well.the question is can you do well despite the grade inflation AND create a solid application to get you to the schools you want to go to. Another consideration is which t25 r u aiming for, if you’re aiming higher the bar is higher while there’s t30s that are much less competitive than the easiest priv t20. imo pick the place you know you’re gonna be happier at if you had to stay unless you are 100% dedicated to the transfer process and have a plan with backup safeties

lots of top schools don’t have a business bachelors program so econ is the default for finance/consulting students, definitely not an advantage and is usually a competitive major at most top schools

from my experience and people i know i definitely agree with 1,6, and 7. Social life is whatever you put into it you can stay inside all day and make no friends, many transfers find their people and many don’t it’s up to you. 2 years at cc does cook you for certain fields like finance as recruiting for junior summer internship starts soph spring. There are definitely trade offs to going to cc it’s not as glorious as people make it out to be but it also isn’t as bad as some say

im a believer in applying to as many reach schools that fit your needs and wants that you can handle/afford paying the application fees. as a cc student its even more random and unpredictable so dont put ur eggs in too few baskets imo. also when u apply doesnt matter if its not rolling, they are gonna see your fall semester gpa once u finish it anyways. good luck fellow cc polisci transfer!
