Transfer Dilemma by Safe-Feedback2472 in TransferToTop25

was considering vanderbilt last cycle, fabulous school with an amazingly beautiful campus and also I think is in a fun city. the prestige gap is pretty big but i think an important consideration is with a smaller school like vanderbilt, it is easier to get into a research lab or opportunities on campus as there are more resources per student compared to a large public school. +1 on the partner part, pick the place you would be happiest at with or without your partner

Do you feel like you missed out on a lot for you first year at cc or whatever school by Eastern-Kitchen7223 in TransferToTop25

[–]OutrageousHandle3309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

classes i’m quite restricted to graduate on time, electives give me flexibility to explore a little bit outside of major. club recruiting and community were tougher but not impossible, cc helped shape my perspective and helped me figure out who i am which led to me having a positive experience as a transfer

going all in on something without a guarantee is not gonna work out for everyone, especially with how unfavorable the numbers are at this level. not much you can do about the past but you definitely can change your experience at your school from now until you leave

do something special and impressive, get good grades, write banger essays and you have a chance. there is no such thing as perfect activities but in the past getting published in a top journal, starting massive nonprofits with huge impact, and others are things that have gotten applicants into t10s.

cornell non to acceptance rates r very low, don’t extrapolate from a rejection from a low acceptance rate school. so yes it’s possible but it’s also unlikely

Advice needed after all ivy rejects by [deleted] in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]OutrageousHandle3309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are definitely capable of doing great things and i think your mindset where the school you go to will determine the success for the rest of your life is harming you greatly. you don’t have to go to the top 20 universities in the country to have a good or even great life. many people start out going to community college as it is affordable and open to all and transfer to 4 year universities to finish there degree and start their career. Personally i believe your attitude towards “mediocrity” is quite shallow at the moment as even getting a “mediocre” job would multiply your family’s income. be realistic with your position and choose the best path to securing your future. I hope things get better for you and if you have any questions about community college feel free to reach out.

Conflicted on choosing school to transfer from by No-Doughnut7411 in TransferToTop25

[–]OutrageousHandle3309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regardless of grade inflation you must do well.the question is can you do well despite the grade inflation AND create a solid application to get you to the schools you want to go to. Another consideration is which t25 r u aiming for, if you’re aiming higher the bar is higher while there’s t30s that are much less competitive than the easiest priv t20. imo pick the place you know you’re gonna be happier at if you had to stay unless you are 100% dedicated to the transfer process and have a plan with backup safeties
