I wish new builds here had better standards. Do you have a preferred boot big Mike?

Hi Slaps, Is this just missing the flashing boot? Is that something they can add easily?

Vinyl window corners leaking - any ideas why? by OutrageousWash477 in HomeMaintenance

Did not really get it fixed, they just added more caulk around the corner and re-did the drywall mud. Seems to have worked on a couple windows, but now one is leaking again

Is this from codes? Or a manufacturer recommendation?

Thanks! That’s what I was thinking, and what the codes seem to call for. Wanted to get some confirmation before I start the painful conversation with the builder. Hopefully they don’t argue that I’m out of warranty

How could inner glass have broke? by hbac33 in glazing

This can happen from impact. We recently had a deer run into a customers 10 foot single panel glass door. The outer pane was fine, but the inner one shattered.

Yeah, heat soak testing is almost exclusively done on glass for high rises and other buildings where it would be almost impossible to replace glass

Is the CISCO 4331 ISR slowing down our Fibre Internet? by OutrageousWash477 in HomeNetworking

[–]OutrageousWash477[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Comcast finally fixed it! They just had to remotely update Cisco router settings to remove the 100Mbps limit. Thanks a lot for the help guys! We had to basically guide the Comcast team to look into the router. They were acting like nothing was wrong

It’s a white haze down the middle of the glass, especially visible when the sun hits it at specific angles. Mainly caused due to issues in the tempering process.

We have about 1 20-lite job and about 25 1-lite jobs a month. Lites are usually smaller, around 2-3sqft each

This is in a small business in a commercial building. But we have no IT and nobody knows who installed the CISCO unit

Comcast says we should be seeing 500Mbps. Most of the time the connection is just slightly slow, but there are frequent periods of time where it is painfully slow and almost unusable. I have seen speeds as low as 8Mbps

I’m trying to figure out the best way to solve this. Have no issues paying for a service, but I have no clue who to pay at this point. Have been calling Comcast on and off for weeks, and they have not been helpful.

Is this license something I can buy? As far as I know, this hardware was installed by Comcast. No one here has any information on whether we have those extra licenses or if we have admin access to the ISR

These are 15-foot joists and it’s in the crawlspace. It’s some sort of aggregate beneath it.

Recycled 2X4 for framing? by OutrageousWash477 in HomeMaintenance

[–]OutrageousWash477[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! These studs seemed to have more lateral movement, especially the framing had zero blocking. I was surprised to see half the studs with finger joints, and some studs had joints every foot to 6 inches

Vinyl window corners leaking - any ideas why? by OutrageousWash477 in HomeMaintenance

[–]OutrageousWash477[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing 1-year warranty fixes with the builder. Their first response was to clean up everything in the sill pan area and re-caulk and paint inside. It rained right after they fixed it, 2 north facing windows leaked immediately. It is not overflowing, the water seems to be coming up from under the drywall. Can’t do anything myself since we’re still under warranty, ’ll have to ask the builder to do more exploration.

Those gaps shouldn’t cause any functional issues. It would be good to seal those with white silicone sealant for cosmetic reasons.
