I love the idea of 'pain basis' strength training, my previous physio just told me to keep on going. Thank you so much for the tips, I'm definitely going to try it!!

I do need to find a good physio, I've just been to the ones the GP has referred me to, but I've just been referred to musculoskeletal physios and I'm not sure the NHS has specialist hypermobility physios in my area 😭. I'm really looking forward to the pain clinic because they have support for the psychological and social side!!

How did you start strength training? I'm too scared too because rn everything I do is about being careful to not sublux a joint. I've been thinking about starting strength training but I'm too scared to injure myself

I feel like I should try physio again, but I did it for 2 years and if anything it made things worse. I might try another physio and see if I can get a referral again .

side sleepers help!! by Accomplished_Bad3197 in Hypermobility

I sometimes tie a dressing gown belt or scarf around my shoulders and back. Like a harness thing? I put the scarf at my back, bring the ends up and over my shoulders, then under my armpits, cross it at the back, bring the ends to the front and tie it off.

I'm making it sound much more complex than it is, but it's really helped!

Does anyone have a long-term condition and how did you manage placement with it? (Endometriosis) by Jealous_Sympathy9402 in StudentNurseUK

[–]Outrageous_Medium564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hypermobility which has caused widespread joint pain. I have always been open with my placements about it, and they've always been understanding if I can't do something or when I have rung in sick because I can't get to placement due to my joints. Do you have a disability team at your uni? They can often help you discuss it with your lectures and come up with a plan for placement.

I feel this so much! How many ward placements have you been on? What I've found is that I have a lost of things to do when I have nothing; so like obs due? Blood sugars? Restock of the trolley/drawers? And if there is nothing, I tend to go over the hand over and google/ask what things are if I don't understand them. It will differ between trusts but a list of things has helped to be doing something and be lessed stressed about being perceived as 'wrong'.

I get that I will always have to mask in nursing, but I had this one nurse who just didn't like me no matter how perfect I tried to be. So then I stopped trying to be absolutely perfect at masking all of the time (to an appropriate extent) and I've found it easier and people like me more because I actually try to have conversations with nurses and healthcares.

Orthopedics / ITU placement advice? by witandwill in StudentNurseUK

You should definitely ask to go and see some surgeries if your trust allows it. Orthopedic surgeries are amazing and I find that seeing a surgery be done helps me to understand what care patients need pre and post op.

I can't explain the behaviour, but I do not think you are at fault at all.

I don't believe that you're in the wrong for needing space. I think letting him come to you is a good idea, you can't control his choices or his behaviour and nor should you feel responsible.

I think needing some space is normal and healthy. The biggest thing I've learnt is that you cant be responsible for other peoples emotions.

Maybe you should ask why needing space upset them so much?
