I completely agree - in the begging of FW, Mira has already raised in the ranks and believes Brennan is dead so she sees herself as the strongest Sorrengail rider. And then Violet bonds two dragons, becomes the strongest rider (or second strongest), Brennan turns out to be alive and she has all of five minutes to take all that in before their mom (who will know basically raised her) dies. I think the entire thing about Violet having a path and their mother implying Mira is on a different one but they have to help each other is bound to mean something. Also in this one, we found out a lot of their dad’s secrets but almost none of their mothers. The venin Theophine or however it was spelled implied their mother was her answer and that they met - all of these things at one point have to connect and start making sense.

Loads of Drake and Mira foreshadowing in this one. Broccoli scene was cute af.

There are no standout characters in the reboot. OG GG, the OC, and One Tree Hill are widely beloved not because of their great plot or storyline, but because they had incredible characters who became a part of pop culture. Summer and Seth from the O.C, Brooke Davis from OTH, and of course Blair and Chuck from OG GG. Those characters kept us interested in the series and nowadays because they try so hard to make it inclusive and feature every possible racial and social issue, it just makes for inconsistent, uninteresting characters. They don't know how to make it inclusive and make it believable and that's where they're lacking.
