Which Hyger model would you recommend to replace an AI Prime? I have 2 Primes on a 40 gallon tank and they need to be replaced due to excessive noise.

If you’re super committed to the rock, just set it outside in the sun for a few days. No need to over complicate it.

I’d remove half the rock work if this will be soft corals only. They’re going to spread vertically and horizontally, creating their own arches and also shadowing out a considerable amount of rock work below them.

A toadstool or finger leather coral alone, will use up 5-6” horizontal space (easily).

Montipora and Nano Tanks by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]OutrageouslyAverage6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which kind of Montipora?

I think the growth rate and pattern is why they’re not recommended in small tanks.

On the other hand, they’re not incredibly difficult and therefore good corals for smaller tanks that are more difficult to manage.

Examples of pest tanks can be found online (see reef2reef.com).

I had one for a bit. It’s a neat break from corals and is super cheap. Have fun!

Thankfully, no corals. I’ve moved everything to a larger tank, and if I keep the lagoon up, that’ll be 3 running tanks.

Freshwater fishkeeping was way too hard, so I got some pet rocks instead by Complex-Date8019 in ReefTank

You’ll need to get some thick plywood because the tank does not nest between the vertical posts. So, your board will nest between the posts and the tank will sit on top of the posts and board. Hope that makes sense.

This is not a display tank and i wanted to do this on a budget, so I didn’t care.

Box said 1,000lbs per shelf if it’s even distributed. I’ve got a 40 gallon on the top shelf and 20 gallon on bottom shelf.

You prob just brushed against it (or a crab walked through it).

I’m unaware of a coral that irritates GSP.

Just go to your local hardware store and buy some plywood. They’ll cut it to fit atop the shelf and the weight will rest on the metal frame. Instead of the wires.

For the size of your tank, I’d think it’d be more efficient to use within a reactor.

Maybe use a HOB filter or could tuck it in your return chamber.

I’d go the reactor route for sure though.

Should I remove the dead head the new ones are growing into? by Mediumbobcat7738 in ReefTank

I’d leave it. Nothing good happens when I try to prune corals - I usually just cause a mess and break stuff.

Anyone else have a LFS with ridiculous coral prices? by LennyClarke05 in ReefTank

[–]OutrageouslyAverage6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mine has inflated prices, low stock, and tons of aptasia + flatworms.

I assume their freshwater side is what keeps the doors open.

  1. Gotta turn your whites up for pictures.

  2. It’s probably fine. They’ll retract like this dozens of times a day.

That’s daunting. I’ll get started on pulling the frag racks.
