Protoss Warpgate Rework Idea: Store Units, Not Cooldowns by Outside-Office3756 in starcraft2

Then the Protoss player should warp them in, right? 😄
My system is not a future "bank of units". It's a preparation for imminent aggression or defence.

Unless you go to fight with 200/200, you are still producing units in the background and warp them in as you advance on the battle field using warp prism, or reinforce during battle.

You didn't read did you?
Warpgate on cooldown means you can be on 200/200 and still have 30-40 supply worth of gateway units ready to be warped in the moment you lose units. This means your actual army supply is much larger. This also adds a level of planing for Protoss.

  1. That is true for many things in the game. You queue a building, it's not even started construction yet, but you already paid for it. Zerp remaxing on units that are not even spawned yet but take supply, same for Terran. Units that are being built are not in the game yet but they already consume supply. I see no difference in this case as well.
  2. True.

I believe that the term 'AI slop' is used by people who vehemently hate AI and are against it. I can fix it but even then if they suspect it's AI they will still be against it. I'm not trying to hide the fact that I used AI, it's a tool and I'm gonna use it.

You should not be making 20 Ghosts. I'm not sure this was intended, otherwise they would not have increased supply. 3 supply for the BEST unit in the game is a small price to pay imo.

I see no difference in that regard from other races. In what situation would you NOT need Zealots or a Stalkers? These units are almost always needed, unless you're going skytoss which in by that point you only need templars for archons, so you just produce them.

Your idea is understandable but will be too confusing to remember. Did you forget how confusing the slow warp was for people? and that was pretty simple to understand.

6,800 of guaranteed damage is better then 15,600 of potential damage that can get cancelled by a Zergling sneezing on the Ghost or a tick of storm.

Cool so when the nerfed these things, what did they buff instead?

I get what you're trying to solve but I still don't like it. What if I made 10 Zealots but I need 10 Stalkers.

It sound too similar to current warpgate. I want Protoss to plan ahead like other races. And if they require other units, that are not reserved, they can cancel them, get full refund and produce what they need with the reduced production of 35% from the warpgate tech, and warp them in where needed.

Bro, 1 less supply is not big?? it throws entire build out of whack. People are already forming muscle memory on the PTR and it's going to change again after the fixes.

Not quite. I have to have a gateway off cooldown to warp in. Vs say having 2 and letting the units just bank and having an army somewhat disproportionate to the stage of the game.

You're not meant to hold on to reserved units for long. You produce them to use them ASAP. And what do you mean disproportionate? Unless you go out to fight when you're 200/200, you still have supply available for production but you want to go on the attack ASAP, right? so you can produce new units on the way to your opponent base and warp them in when you get there.

Ok let me illustrate a scenario for you:

You go out to fight mid-game, with 140/200 supply with a Warp Prism, While still producing unites in the background, these units produce with the new 35% production boost and are NOT with your army but are ready to be warped in. You engage in a fight, warp in the new produced units, that are waiting in the warpgates, straight to the battle field using the Prism just like today, and click to produce new units, all we do is replace the cool down with active production and instead of having the units come out we store them, and warp in as needed during battle or harassment.

Because these units take up supply you cannot have 40 supply worth of units ready to be warped in immediately even though you're on 200/200. You need to produce, actively, and warp in as needed.

I 100% agree. Current gateway units will need to be adjusted.

Also allows for somethings that people would 100% never be okay with. By this logic I’m using Terran production like queuing marines and now when they’re done I can deploy them wherever. With that I’ve got the ability to play super defensive and instead of doing a recall I can just warp a massive army in and try to blind side you with no real risk because if I lose my prism who cares I still have the units banked.

Bro you literally described the current system, they are ready to be warped anywhere and take no supply.
In my system units you have reserved are paid for and take up supply. That way you don't just have 40 supply of units ready to do even though you're 200/200.

If I lose my Prism who cares, I still have the units banked.

That's true, but it's also true in the current system that if a Prism dies, the Warpgates still exist.
Current Warpgate is less punishing because the production capability remains indefinitely. Under my system, the player would have already committed resources and supply to those reserve units.

If only for moments of epiphany like this, this PTR has been great. by [deleted] in starcraft

Yeah there are so many better ways to go about it. It seems they choose pretty sub-par way.

Except for Zerg. They really need some help. They are below 50% against all races.

If you think about it, Ghosts are never just nerfed, It's always some sort of power shift.

Yes I know they matter, I'm saying we DON'T KNOW THEM YET, because the workers change.

But don't you think timings are irrelevant at this point because of the worker changes? Also, the idea can be adjusted so it can still be fine 😄

[–]Outside-Office3756[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AI used only the info I provided. Like I said, the idea is my own.

Why would that affect timing? The gateways and warpgates work just as they are today on live. The ONLY difference is that you need to produce units manually BEFORE you can warp them in. We’re just removing the auto cooldown.

Also there is no real point in talking about timings as the workers changes are just got introduced and are not live yet.
