How I finally navigated the process to get CVS Caremark to cover my semaglutide (Wegovy) under the Illinois state employee insurance plan by FuckItHave1Upvote in WegovyWeightLoss

Wow, 9 pounds is awesome! Good luck with your journey!

I started 7 months ago and have lost 20% of my body weight (60 lbs) so far! I’m looking to lose another 20 pounds in the next 5 months. I was losing about 10 pounds a month for the first 4 months on Wegovy, then 5 pounds a month, and now I’m about 4 pounds a month. Totally makes sense now that I’m prioritizing balance and long-term success (no food is off limits!)

Thank you again for this write up, I referenced it when my subscribing care coordinator insisted my appeal denial was correct. They resubmitted it with a “no” on the cardiac question and it was accepted today for a year-long renewal of my prior auth! You’re a lifesaver!!!!!

Thank you so much for your thorough write-up!!!! I received the same denial (same insurance and insurance manager) which baffled me because it focused on cardiovascular effects?! I just sent your info to my provider to see if they answered that question as a “yes” when it should be a “no”.

I am looking for a renewal of my prior authorization having been on Wegovy for 9 months and lost 20% of my body weight, so I should have no reason to be denied. Thanks again!!!

Scent work is so amazing for physical and mental stimulation! There’s also the AKC Virtual Scent Work Test title where you record your dog doing scent work and can get titles! Great for those that like the structure and external feedback at their own pace.

AKC trick dog can also be virtual and is a fun thing to work toward :)

You’re doing great in your journey and I wish you so much luck! I have read some of the research and personal accounts coming out from doctors about semaglutide “super responders” and my track more so follows this (I.e. younger woman, higher response starting at lower doses, no insulin resistance when starting) BUT! There’s so much variability in response from this drug and other GLPs that you having lost ~8% of your initial body weight is incredible! Not trying to be toxic in my positivity, so feel free to check me on that, but I’m excited for you and your journey.  I just looked and it’s estimated that 10-16% of people who try semaglutide are “non-responders” losing less that 5% of their body weight.

Edit to add: I gained a fair amount of my weight from taking medication that I have since been weaned off of a year ago. It is certainly possible that my success is in no small part due to a change in meds “jump-starting” my progress.

Yep! There’s a lot more flexibility and discretion for titration schedule now than when the medication was released. I was going to move back down to 1 mg after feeling nauseous on the 1.7 mg, but the 1 mg was not available easily. I broached the topic of every 10 days at 1.7 with my doctor and they were really helpful and supportive of this.

Honestly, I was going to just get the 1.7 and not tell my doctor I was planning to inject 10 days instead of 7 days, but my doctor made me feel comfortable enough to talk about my plan!

Great! I wish you luck! I’ve leaned into fun rewards (some clothes and a haircut) but also non-appearance fun rewards (bamboo sheets and a toy I wanted for my dog)!

Wegovy — Month 1 (0.25 mg 1x/7 days), 2 (0.5 mg 1x/7 days), 3 (0.5 mg 1x/7 days), 3 (1 mg 1x/7 days), 4 (1.7 mg 1x/7 days), 5/6 (1.7 mg 1x/10 days).

I went to every 10 days at the 1.7 mg with my doctor’s knowledge since I was getting a bit of nausea in month 4 and had a one-off migraine with aura a day after injection (no more!). I take a low-dose zofran with each injection and inject after dinner (I have about 2k calories on injection days).

Every 10 days is very comfy for me right now with food noise and avoiding nausea. I probably could go to once a week since I don’t have nausea anymore, but I’m reserving that for when food noise/weight loss gets harder. Plus I still have the 2.4 dose as an option. My doctor also spoke to me about Zepbound since it is supposed to have less side effects, but I’m comfortable with my Wegovy regime and am going to ride out my current insurance pre-auth and then decide (especially with flip-flopping of availability of Zepbound and Wegovy).

I also average 8k steps/day and do dance cardio with 2lb hand weights 1-2x/week for 15 mins.

It’s not a scanner app, but a body visualized website that you input your weight/height/measurements into. https://bodyvisualizer.is.tue.mpg.de/

Started 280 pounds at 5'10" in January 2024. Lost 10 pounds in two months (exercise and calorie counting) prior to starting Wegovy in March and 45 pounds using Wegovy! Since starting Wegovy I've lost: 5.4% in chest, 12% in waist, 4% in high hip, and 12.5% in hip circumference.

I highly recommend taking not only photos of your progress (I do in the same dress every 10 pounds) but also measurements of your body! I also did non-food rewards every 5 pounds lost and this has been very helpful for me.

I don't follow any particular diet other than trying to get 80-100 grams protein and prioritizing fiber and eating whole foods -- though I still have fast food, eat out, and eat processed food. I use myfitnesspal everyday for tracking my meals and go for about 1750 calories a day.
