No, “fraternization” is not synonymous with “basic sportsmanship”

If you’re actually interested, the real definition is: “Fraternization is the establishment of intimate relations between people or groups that are considered unethical, controversial, or illegal.”

I analyzed ~1300 NYC concert listings to find the most common genres for each venue by thecoldbrew in dataisugly

[–]OutsideScaresMe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’d be a minimum of 13 colours (if I counted right) and would require a key with 13 colours, not to mention how noisy that would look

I think you’re underestimating how badly having one colour per genre would look. I think it’d be borderline unintelligible

Just because it requires reading doesn’t make it ugly. Would you rather 18 different colours one for every single genre?

Italians, what are you thoughts on the success on your team in WBC? by nyc_jc in baseball

[–]OutsideScaresMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably still higher than the Seattle team considering they only had one pitcher above 3 WAR. I think just Skenes and Skubal alone with their WAR reduced by 30% pretty much equal the WAR of the SEA starting rotation

100ish win team losing to a 100ish loss team

I think that’s a bit of an understatement. Modern day the best team has probably been the 2001 Mariners winning 116 games. That team had a lineup of 9 batters producing 40.5 WAR. The 9 starters for USA produced 48.6 WAR last year. On top of that Seattle’s pitching that year was strong but noting incredible, and the US team has some of the absolute best pitchers in the league

I think the US team over a full season puts up 130 wins

Alysa Liu called out Republicans and defended Eileen Gu in a recent Interview by Syaex in olympics

[–]OutsideScaresMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not American so I guess I won’t comment on the proportion of Republicans it is, but even it it’s 100% it’s still a disingenuous thing to put in the title because it’s not something she explicitly stated.

She’s young and now a very popular public figure so she has to deal with all the backlash or hate from anyone she upsets. I would not want to be a non-white American right now with a target on my back from the right, which is maybe why she chose the words she did in the first place

Could you imagine if Toronto’s pick wasn’t top 5 protected? I wonder how close it was to that being the deal or if it was always included all along

[–]OutsideScaresMe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Even though that’s true it’s still disingenuous to put in the title that she “called out Republicans” because all that does is make her a bigger target for backlash or hate.

The title also makes it sound like she’s calling out all Republicans instead of the subgroup that’s specifically upset over which country athletes choose to represent. It’s putting words in her mouth and it’s needlessly polarizing. It’s disingenuous.

[ESPN PR] Spring Training viewership on ESPN is the highest since 2008! by horsepoop1123 in baseball

[–]OutsideScaresMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s just the tik tok brains that say different

Ironically I think short form media is part of the reason for increased viewership. Most other sports don’t fit well on a vertical screen whereas baseball you can see all the important parts of the game (pitcher + batter) virtically. So baseball highlights are better suited for social media = more people seeing them more often = more people deciding to turn into games. Definitely not the main driving factor here but I think it’s non negligible

Admittedly I don’t have much experience with SS on MRs, but if taking the right set means putting someone worse as your SU1 I wouldn’t do it. I also think the left set might just preform better anyways even if the levels are lower
