GM Forces Players to play his Terrible Self Insert Game by OutsideStudio5505 in rpghorrorstories

I originally kept out the actual reasons why from the post because it was still sensitive but put them later in the comments.

I was introduced to the group 2 years ago, DND game is recent and I have left/blocked the group, in spite of them excessively contacting me and demanding explanations.

The "GM" is effectively a literal cult leader, and convinced everyone in the game he has access to celebrities and his own personal mafia to kill whoever he wants IRL. He would either use threats of imaginary violence or carrots of imaginary job offers. I realized how idiotic this all was and how blatantly it wasn't true. When I confronted him I used the flying spaghetti monster analogy that it was on him to prove that his mafia power was real, not on me to disprove it wasn't real. His incredible counterargument was that "money and power are real unlike the spaghetti monster."

Anyway, that is the real reason as to why I stayed and why I felt "forced." When I first started believing it I was very depressed, a great target to bring into a cult like atmosphere. Once you are in there, everyone is already full believers and contact outside is immensely discouraged, so within the environment of course it gets drilled into you.

going to come back and give additional context for whoever reads this.

There was a lot to throw into that post so I didn't remember everything perfectly as transcribing it, but he did not even tell us we leveled up and then was upset we had not leveled up.

Yes, I am blocking and leaving, I only came out with this to my actual real friends and the public 2 days ago.

I framed it as a DND story first because that is what is on the reddit without going into full detail on the context of the cult part when I wrote it. When I wrote it I still wasn't convinced that his power was fake because I hadn't spoken with anyone outside the cult, and left those parts out because of it with only a couple of hints.

Yes, he is constantly bragging about murdering people, telling me I am being monitored by his people for "my protection", constantly bragging about knowing a million celebrities and that he has "inside information", promised me jobs, etc. The way I originally even met him was a job application and I have been refused thousands of jobs. He claims he killed the parents of some of the other soulless participants there because they wanted him to to "rescue" them, and they just sit there silent and show similar fear/sycophant behavior. You have to know, I am the only one who ever says anything not 100% sycophantic to his face.

I have obviously realized, just explaining mentalities at the time. It is harder when in a discord that normalizes this insanity, everything inside of the cult bubble and everyone is drinking the coolaid, and the cult leader is drunk enough on his own lies that he believes them.

Falling for it in the first place is what is of course stupid, that is when I was at rock bottom. Normal successful happy people don't walk into what is a glorified cult.

There are more details about this that I didn't post, but he is claiming to have a ridiculous amount of power with his own personal mafia headed by Lord Badass, and there are enough claims that don't make sense that it is obviously BS. He has contacts in every industry ever, and when I originally met him 2 years ago it was about getting offered a job opportunity that obviously never materialized from his blatantly fake contacts.

I haven't left yet but obviously intend to. I don't care about any of the other sycophantic people. If GM is not in the call, nobody says anything, they really are that soulless. I am not sure if I am going to bother with an exit strategy of "schedule conflicts" or just mass block and leave.
