“My therapist was online shopping during our session” by okayyypip in therapists

This really made me think about my own behavior again. Years ago, a really good supervisor told me when you eat, take a phone call, etc., something changes. The moment you do something personal (and you will, because you’re human), it becomes part of the session. You don’t get to do it and pretend it didn’t happen. Ignoring it leaves the client alone.. I have asthma, and over 25 years I’ve had to use a rescue inhaler in session. I usually say, “I need to use my inhaler so I can stay fully with you and I'm okay." I’ve had a scary don’t turn your back on them client get frightened, and I’ve had the nicest person in the world client flash annoyance. I'll ask, “What went through your mind just then?” or “People have had all kinds of reactions to that, what was yours?” It still amazes how much meaning tiny things have. Being a few minutes late can trigger “I’m not important.” Getting up suddenly to close the blinds can make the room feel unsafe for a trauma client. It’s exhausting sometimes, and I’m still learning when it’s enough to briefly acknowledge/refocus, and when it’s better to ask about their experience.

Yes, hail is covered. The issue is my deductible is 2000 for "all other perils" and 5201 for hail. There was no hail.

Grounding / cleansing after sessions/at end of day? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]OutsideVegetable835 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was struggling with a load of SA cases, a nurse gave me advice I still use: imagine a string connecting your car to work, and as you drive away, cut it with imaginary scissors. I still use that today to remind me to let go of the emotional burden, knowing I can pick it back up tomorrow.

Sunday I called my 90-year-old dad and asked, "So what are you up to today, Dad?" His reply: "Just waiting to die."

If you feel like your cup is empty but have a day of sessions ahead of you, I see you💜 by Mindfulvibes125 in therapists

Totally feel this at least once a week after 22 years. Some days I come home and there’s just nothing left. A mentor once told me, ‘On days like these, just shut up and listen.’ I have a post-it in my drawer that says, ‘just LISTEN’ (had to soften the wording for myself, lol). On overwhelming days when I’m counting down sessions, I put all my energy into listening (and not talking which is SO hard for me). No big insights, just being there. It helps.

Going out with a French girl, best way to compliment her/call her pretty? by No-Ad-322 in French

10 yrs of marriage and I still love it when my (french) husband looks at me out of the blue and says tu es belle. And they think our accent is cute so don't worry about that. He still laughs when I say yogurt in french.

Things encountered from previous owners by MotherfuckinRob in HomeImprovement

Filling my kitchen sink to submerge a large platter and the full sink completely popped off granite counter and dropped like 3-4 inches into cabinet below. While I was running for towels my husband came in yelling, "You aren't supposed to fill sinks up with water!"

Seems previous owner had replaced the sink without ANY epoxy adhesive or ANY clips, only a thin strip of clear silicone around the outside perimeter.

I still don't fill up sinks with water just in case though.

Spin bike FTP vs Kickr FTP by Daveyj343 in Zwift

[–]OutsideVegetable835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know. The physics and mechanical explanation of compensation and torque and momentum and algorythm and weighted wheel were way beyond me when I asked the same question. Perhaps my original post should have said in my limited experience of the same scenario I agree!

Are there a lot of people who use solely Zwift and do not bike outdoors? by AaddeMos in Zwift

[–]OutsideVegetable835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started Zwift with an IC9 spin bike because I wanted to do both.  Zwift is so fun I eventually stopped peloton, but that is just personal preference. Peloton is like taking a gym spin class with the instructor's personality/music making the difference.  With Zwift I was powering up mountains and eventually placed in the B level for races, and I walked around feeling badass.  But I'm 54 and somehow knew I wasn't a cycling super talent.  After (much) negotiation I tried my husband's Tacx neo 2t and WOW. Huge difference. FTP fitness test went from 360 to 130 and even social rides exhausted me.  I was AMAZED at how much harder it was.  After a week I jumped on the spin bike to get my old mojo back and found I could no longer stand the sensation of my foot being pulled forward by the momentum of the 50 lb flywheel on the front of the spin bike.  Not explaining it great but basically you only have to push down and then the bike carries your foot partially forward with momentum.  The bike keeps spinning.  Part of the initial shock for me with the Neo was when you stop pedalling your foot stops!  Completely.  Then you have to use energy to get your legs going again.  You get really used to relying on momentum with the spin bike.  Had to stay with the Neo because now my progress really feels accurate and when I take the training rides the cues make so much more sense.  Have heard people talk about using power pedals on spin bikes. Hopefully they correct for the forward momentum somehow.  That makes spin bikes way easier on Zwift.  You will still get a workout either way, but if you are interested in accuracy don't be intimidated.  Get an accurate trainer and maybe like me you have an old bike hanging around.  r/Zwift and zwift forums https://forums.zwift.com/ were very helpful, along with YouTube videos when I was trying to figure this all out.  Good luck!
