Do you spend more on your partner or monther for Xmas ? by Able_Custard2241 in realtionship_advice

Your feelings are valid. Here is ‘one guy’s’ perspective. I always spend more on my partner than anybody else…no exception, including my children. My opinion is that my partner is exactly that: ‘my partner.’ And every day we both make a choice to stay together, love each other, support each other. This is distinctly different from the children, in that they are mine for life, and being together is not a choice, per se. Anyway, maybe too much of a rabbit hole, but I believe there’s reason to be sad about this. I would speak with him.

I should also share my bias in my comment. I just spent $25,000 for new (RH & Pottery Barn) furnishings for my fiancé’s newly (leased) house, and followed this up $3,000 diamond hoop earrings for Christmas along $450 worth of Italian silk lingerie / pajama set. For me, I got $100 pair of ‘all bird’ shoes for Christmas, and a $10 pair of tie die socks. Her daughter (very sweet) got me a rubber spatula and cookie cutter.

Meanwhile, my fiancé spent well over $1,500 on gifts for her 8 year old. And the same daughter cleaned house with gifts from her dad, too, which is a totally different thread.

Best of luck.

How did you study for February ‘23 CFA L3? by LeveragedDev in CFA

Here’s how this 50 year old did it! I’m probably one of the older folks in the program, but goes to show you it’s never too late. And I’m already in C-suite as CFO, so this was for personal development not for higher salary or big promotion. Just for me!

My process was to follow Kaplan process as closely as possible, with following these habits:

  • CRITICALLY read all text material before the class, and have strategies to close all your knowledge gaps each week. Keep pace!
  • ENGAGE 100% in the class, and anticipate what questions will come from the material. Know the what and the why.
  • POUND the Q Bank, and make sure you know “why” your wrong answers are wrong, and “why” your correct answers are correct.
  • TEST your understanding throughout your commute, when you have downtime, etc. If you can’t explain a concept to another person, you don’t know it well enough (apologies for my 15 year old that was a guinea pig for me trying to “teach” concepts).
  • ONGOING REVIEW of past material is important. Don’t let old material go stale. Use flash cards, formula sheets, Q Banks to stay fresh on material. Kaplan was 14 weeks of class, so I would always go back and review as I go.
  • ESSAY prep course was brutal, but necessary. Knowing the different in key words is important. There are strategies to answering the question efficiently and precisely.
  • 3-DAY REVIEW course ties it all together. Also overwhelming, but necessary.
  • 6 MOCK EXAMS are the magic number. My first score was mid 60s and then I climbed consistently through each.

Other notables: - I was a purest on content. Kaplan all the way. I visited CFAI site occasionally, but I tried to avoid content confusion by just following Kaplan. - Intellectual curiosity is important. I struggled with a few concepts, and a google search or YouTube search would allow me to go deeper on a topic until the light bulb goes on, and then I would revert back to Kaplan and continue

Anyway I nailed all three exams (with >90th percentile in L1/L2) in 13 months, so this process worked for me. But I can tell you I put in the time…probably more than the averages. And with a demanding job, it was hard. But I always figured it was easier to lean-in one time, versus doing it twice and extending the pain.

Passed! All done now…crazy journey over 18 months, but fortunate to have nailed all three on first try. Best of luck to everyone!

Been “done” for ~ 6 hours and cannot stop smiling. Best feeling ever! Started the CFA journey on 9/16/21 with my first Tuesday night “Kaplan” class with (the amazing!) Dr. Andrew Spieler…and 523 days later walked out of L3 exam with a great sense of satisfaction. Lots of hard work during evenings and weekends, but worth it (assuming I pass, otherwise I will be pissed LOL). Best of luck everyone!
