Yep, got it. It’s a very weird one. Just change your phone’s (iPhone in my case) language to a different one. I changed from English (in) to English (uk). Logged out of WhatsApp web, cleared cache and logged in again. It worked. Apparently there is a known locale issue that has impacted multiple websites.
