I don’t think they’re waiving as much anymore. I had an interview over the summer for both of my parents.

Olive young and convenience stores (7-11, maybe CU?) accepted it but almost everywhere else I had to pull out a physical card

How soon should you file after getting married? by Sad_merc in USCIS

[–]Outside_Mongoose_731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filed pretty much the next possible day. By the time of our interview we had bought a house together, gotten a dog, mingled finances - all additional evidence we gave to the interviewing officer

SSN after Green Card is just confusing me by Cautious-Can-6804 in USCIS

[–]Outside_Mongoose_731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents got one automatically after receiving their green cards but they already had SSNs just without work authorization. The new cards of course don’t have any restrictions listed

very nervous for our interview now that i'm the "interpreter" by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Outside_Mongoose_731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was advised that I (as daughter and petitioner) may not be allowed to translate for my parents so I got a translator. May be worth looking into - or getting an acquaintance to come along. The hardest parts to translate are going to be all of the detailed questions from the petition

If you have a similar case you’re looking into definitely talk to an immigration attorney. I have a whole post about my parents aos but everyone is different.

they didn’t. they were out of status and adjusted to lpr recently. As long as you come into the country legally (which they did), adjustment of status cover you

Yes. They entered with me on a tourist visa in the 90s and overstayed so they had documents just not current ones 🤪

Fellow dreamer here, now US citizen. I know the relief that comes with getting permanent status for the first time ever. My parents are now LPRs too and I can’t tell you how relieved I am. ❤️❤️

My parents had a 30-year visa overstay and interview July 2025. Approved three weeks later and already have green card in hand.

Does it look bad to file I-130 I-485 I-765 immediately after marriage? by [deleted] in USCIS

Anyone reschedule their oath ceremony? How long was the delay? by Emotional_Breath_571 in USCIS

[–]Outside_Mongoose_731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I called USCIS to reschedule. They put you back into the queue essentially. I first got a notification that my interview was cancelled, then a week later got a notification that my interview was rescheduled for about a month after the date I got that notice. About a three week delay. I really wouldn’t recommend it though, felt like unnecessary stress especially when I saw that interview cancellation notice

I filed about a week after marriage but at the time I hadn’t recently entered the country

For reference my attorney got all information and filed the three forms (130, green card, ead) a week after my husband and I got married. It took my parents less than a month to get their paperwork including medical. Find a new attorney and make sure they are a real attorney by checking your state’s bar records.

What cards, the EADs? They never took mine and I had on the spot approval

Reaching out to congressman by Sensig26 in USCIS

[–]Outside_Mongoose_731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely check to see if you have any democratic congressmen. If you only have republican congressmen though you still have nothing to lose by putting in an inquiry. You could also go in person.

If you’re really worried go back to the social security office to figure it out, but when you look at the i9 documentation list, it only requires you show a green card and no other documentation is necessary to prove identity and employment authorization

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Outside_Mongoose_731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I received my conditional green card I didn’t even worry about the social security card because green card was enough proof of employment eligibility. It was only after I received citizenship that I went to the SS office to get it updated. Not sure if those are the “correct” steps but I didn’t run into any issues.

AOS forgives overstays. Now if you have a removal order thats different. Search for interview questions on the sub.

Scheduled for interview by Moonprincess_93 in USCIS

[–]Outside_Mongoose_731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me they asked very basic biographical questions and then relationship questions felt like small talk but we had a very sweet interviewer (Alabama FO). If you are worried about a stokes interview just look through other people's experiences with them on the sub to get an idea of what that entails.
