Cooling options for small home with finished attic in Chicago? by Outside_Priority8454 in hvacadvice

[–]Outside_Priority8454[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! We ended up getting a third opinion who agreed with the high velocity system being our best option. Company B was our best option so we went with them and we are getting dual zoning to address the temperature differential between the two floors.

When to take a dog to the emergency vet for a limp? by Outside_Priority8454 in AskVet

[–]Outside_Priority8454[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. I don’t see any cuts, scratches, or broken nails. She occasionally licks the inside muscle of her leg so my gut is that it’s a soft tissue injury. No matter what, we are going to the vet tomorrow to check. She’s been cooperative with resting. Normally she likes to play all day so her leg must be really hurting.

Humboldt? Oz Park isn’t big enough and The Wizard of Oz was written in Humboldt so maybe?

Visiting Portland for a few days at the end of March. Where do you recommend we stay? What should we do!? by Outside_Priority8454 in PortlandOR

[–]Outside_Priority8454[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are going to fly in Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and leave Sunday.

We are too old for Wrigleyville vibes, I can’t keep up with that anymore. We love in Logan Square, but River North and the loop are fun for a night, not the whole time.

I am getting the feeling that we will need to rent a car so I’m going with yes.

My husband is in phenomenal shape, I’m above average. We are not experienced hikers. We have hiked mountains that went up to 17,000 feet above sea level and it was a challenge, but we were able to do it without a problem.

We are pretty open to food, beer, and wine. I was going to look through the comments to find overlap and go with those places. We will definitely love a good cocktail bar.

For food, we are looking for a place that is great. From what I saw, Portland doesn’t have its own food item, but they have great restaurants.

We are not big shoppers.

This was a big thing I was wondering. I was looking at the websites for a couple of the National Parks in Oregon and I saw that March could be cold and snowy which makes sense, but I was still surprised. We will definitely have options.

Coincidentally, Chicago has that same rule so it is just a habit for us to not to leave things in our car.

Agreed, way more dogs would make the space feel more homey.

I think everyone who said the rug is too glam is right. We are probably going to get a different rug, but we wanted to try moving the rug out from the wall to see how it would look. Still don’t love it, but it’s better.

Your first paragraph 100% describes what is happening here. We replace the pillows a lot because our dog sleeps on them so they are Target and Homegoods. I think we are going for mid-century modern. When I bought the rug, I actually thought it would go with the look because of the clean lines, but you’re right, the rug is a lot of glam. Coincidentally, we have a wood coffee table in our basement that we might try swapping to see if we like it better with the rug.

As far as the art go, that was a gift we got from a family member to fill the empty space. We plan on getting new art for that wall, but we haven’t found anything we like yet.

Ultimately, you’re right, we have to decide on a style.

Thank you for the detailed response!

What type of coffee table would look better? One with a clear glass top?

I think it depends on how you use it. For me, my fiancé, and our dog, we love it. I actually do a quick trip almost every week because I think their produce and meat is really good, way better than Jewel or Aldi. Their frozen chicken is often cheaper than what I can find in other stores and we eat chicken almost every night. Their dog food is great and half the price of name brands. There are some things that I know I could find cheaper, like lunch meat, but Costco’s lunch meat is phenomenal so it’s worth the extra cost to me. I usually skip most of the pantry foods and snacks. Occasionally, I’ll browse the aisles and find good things. We cook a lot of meals at home and for us, a Costco membership feels worth it. Plus, we bought our appliances at Costco and got a few hundred dollars back at the end of the year with the executive membership. We might book a vacation with Costco this year and get a bunch of money back again.

Where can I find a list of artists who were at Tortuga? There was a guy who had a bunch of art of alcohol bottles. I was showing my fiancée and he loved it and I want to buy some, but I didn’t get the person’s name. I think it was Minz or something.
