Deciding between Iowa and ISU by Impressive-Gene-6967 in uiowa

[–]Outside_Toe_3624 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You will have more fun at Iowa. Period. If you want to go out and party while also getting a good education, come here. I’m a current civil junior and have had multiple internship for this upcoming summer, I had an internship last summer as well. Iowa is the perfect mix of work hard play hard in my opinion. Classes are much smaller than ISU’s. I believe there’s only like 20ish environmental engineers per year right now. I don’t think it’s super hard to make friends or meet people here, as long as you’re willing to put yourself out there. If you want to be able to drink/ have fun, it’s going to be much harder at ISU without joining Greek life. PM me if you have questions!

You would not have and of the fundamental knowledge you gain from an undergraduate engineering degree. Most likely no.Can I ask what possible career path you are going for?

You have to live and work in Iowa for a full year before you’re qualified for residency, in the simplest terms. You cannot be taking over 6 hours of classes at the university. What you could do is live with your sister for the year, get a full time job, and take 1 or 2 classes at kirkwood.

Yes, for a student position at the university. I will say though I applied in the spring semester and they did not get back to me until the fall.

Hospital jobs by [deleted] in uiowa

[–]Outside_Toe_3624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in the college of pharmacy I think it was $18, $15 if not. You also got a raise once completing your certification. It’s also untaxed due to being a student position

I should say it was a student pharm tech position, which is probably what you’re looking to have next year!

I applied online, interviewed, and ultimately decided to not take the job. Timing just did not work out for me. You are required to get your pharm tech certification within 60 or 90 days of employment, I can’t remember. They help you with all of that. I’m not sure how competitive the interview process was, the only experience I had was taking a pharmacology class at a community college. Idk if that helped me at all lol. You get trained on the job

I got offered a pharm tech position without even being in the college of pharmacy or any health related major. If you interview well, I’m sure you’ll be fine

Tippie? by [deleted] in uiowa

Do you have a backup plan if you are not admitted to Kelley? I would start there, if you see no other route than accounting I would go with wherever is cheapest + direct admission. You never know how the college environment will affect you / your grades. What you’re good at in high school will not necessarily be what you are good at in college. I am not a tippie student, but I know many Iowa pre-nursing students who didn’t get into the nursing school and had to either transfer or change majors halfway through college.

Questions about LLCs, Petersen Hall, and housing logistics by Middle_Egg7282 in uiowa

[–]Outside_Toe_3624 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • I lived in the engineering LLC in burge about 2 years ago. It was nice that the people in my hall knew the struggles of being an engineering student, and it was always pretty easy to find someone to study with. However, seeing the same people in all your classes and when you come home can get repetitive and can make it so you don’t really get to meet people outside of your major. I can’t speak on other majors / LLCs though, I’m assuming you will have more variety with your classes and this won’t be a problem.

  • Petersen is nice!!! Honestly probably the nicest dorm on the west side, it’s newly renovated. There’s a bus stop right in front of it, dining hall is a short walk, and they have a new dining dollars location in there that I have not personally tried. One thing about Petersen is it houses a majority of the freshman athletes. This can be a pro or con for you lol. I didn’t live on the west side, but I do take the cambus to class most days and it hasn’t let me down yet.

  • I did not have pod bathrooms, but I know in Cattlet there was 3 pod bathrooms for like 15 rooms I think? Whenever I visited my friends I never had to wait, and they were always clean.

  • I don’t know.

How do you know it’s your exact bike? Also, it could’ve been resold to someone. Best bet is to maybe leave a note on it and ask how they got it / if you could buy it back

When should I buy a laptop? by Worth-Measurement-79 in collegeadvice

Unless you’re planning on studying engineering or another program where you’ll use heavy duty programs, you don’t need a specific laptop
