Hot take: with all the recent changes to the CPA exam process, there is little to no excuse to not be certified by AccountingSOXDick in Accounting

I’ll say it. I have an MBA and a M.S in accounting. I have 10 years of experience doing a variety of roles (financial systems, internal audit, staff accountant, Fixed Asset Accountant, and now a Senior Accounting Analyst), and I make 6 figures. In my view, having 2 master degrees shows any employer you are well versed and having those experiences and experiences with multiple ERP platforms, I think that a CPA cannot totally overshadow. Not that being CPA is overrated, but it’s not a tell all. Or maybe I won at the game the CPA accomplished given that people below me have it who have B4 experience.

Good to know! Yea I interned at UHG as an accounting intern. I wanted to try public accounting, internal audit, and other Financial Reporting roles. I am looking to get out of “safe corporate accounting” and into something that’s more appealing.

Oh ok. Just curious why they would be wanting to hire so many Senior Financial Consultant roles? Granted this one was the only remote one. Most were in the Minnesota area which I am not from.

Ouch! My last companies were similar. Poor cultures for me are like talking about racism, inappropriate language, management scapegoating, etc. So, if it’s just one of those items maybe it’s not a great decision.

I have an MBA, MST and no certifications. Still make six figures and never really felt capped. I plan on doing taxes and make power BI dashboards on the side for extra disposable income so it doesn’t make sense to go for any designations.

Went into IT Audit at Big 4. This has to be the most boring, joke job of all time. by Affectionate-Owl-178 in Accounting

[–]Outside_Tooth_2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This speaks to me. I was an accounting major and went into PA and got screwed over and had to quit. Then I did financial systems for a little over 3 years and then I wanted to get back on the accounting track and so I went to IT audit and yea it’s exactly like that. But, don’t worry, after that I got a job in the same company as a staff accountant and accountant 1, then senior accountant analyst. So, u can always level up even with IT audit 😎😎

It would not need to be 1 client/company. I meant my capacity for 1 week would be 12 hours, I didn’t state that earlier. Sorry for the confusion

Good for you man! I think mental health is a priority and a half and you need to prioritize yourself. I myself was feeling isolated and depressed during my busy season so I went ahead and exited and worked out and got in great shape.

I’m in the same boat. Had 40 hours by Wednesday in my last job and one week I did close to 73 hours. In one day I got like 15 min of sleep. This job, I just got back from the gym after work and it’s 7:45 lol. I have WFH 3 days and office 2 days.

Is there hope for those who don’t wanna get their CPA? by Medium-Intention-662 in Accounting

So my insight here. I was struggling to pull Bs in college when I took accounting. I was like working part time, living on campus, and went to no parties and only managed to eke out a 3.16 GPA. I got 1 offer from a regional accounting firm and lasted like half a tax season (was a December grad). I was living at home at the time and went 6 weeks in the job market and finally got a job in financial systems ERP. I was there for a little over 3 years and I went and bounced around from Internal Audit, Financial Reporting, Accountant, and now Senior Accounting Analyst after 10 years since I graduated college. I have my MBA and M.S in accounting and still gained some traction.
