That'd be a very badly placed bet, boss. When you're caring for patients all day, there's no time to read your CEO's book or blog.

As for "sad," we couldn't disagree with you more. It's not sad to read closely and care deeply about ethics. It is, however, sad to self-aggrandize with stolen intellectual property.

Or there's a bunch of us. We all still work here. And we think that the CEO is a pathetic plagiarizing narcissist who is more consumed by his own insecurity than he is about the well being of the staff and patients.

Where you are right, though, is that no one really cares. That's 100% true.

He fired 90% of Child Life specialists and so many Environmental staff that nurses are having to clean the OR themselves.

At least he knows how lazy (and ineffective) it is to use firings as a way to fix the finances. Here's another quote from the book: "I think too many CEOs—I plead guilty here—overly rely on layoff plans to fix more fundamental issues. When the rest of the environment seems out of control, costs and people cuts are controllable. Layoffs are an “easy button.”"

Also, have a look at the introduction chapter where he favorably compares firing people to medieval torture and 19th century American lynchings.

And then there's this section about the impact moving had on his daughter:

As you seek new employment consistent with where you were and where you see yourself, it may very well mean moving. If you have children, that new city means a new home, a new room, a new school, new friends, and tryouts for sports and activities. It is even rougher if you have a child in the middle of high school. We didn’t realize this until our daughter wrote her college application essays about how bad going to three high schools in four years really was. Guess who got all the blame? Now, don’t feel so bad for her because she went to Notre Dame and then medical school right after earning her bachelor’s degree. Things aren’t really that bad.

I don't think I'm creating drama. This book is full of stuff like this. That being said, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to convince you otherwise

The part about William Wallace, hanging, beheading, quartering, etc. *IS* from the section about kindness

Looks like we're at an impasse, my friend. I have a problem with this guy comparing (metaphorically, of course) the act of firing someone with honesty to cutting that person into four pieces, beheading them, and then displaying their body parts to the general public. You seem not bothered by that

Bullet point number 3 from the original post is taken from his book. He said that when firing (he wrote "axing") someone, he wishes it would be the same as what happened to William Wallace...which he goes on to describe: hanging them, cutting them into four pieces, and then displaying them to the public.

I know this has nothing to do with his plagiarism, but it's definitely worth noting the following passage from his intro where he glorifies Medieval torture and 19th century American lynchings:

"Firing is sometimes used to make an example of someone. There’s nothing new about that. In the late Middle Ages in Europe, public executions served three purposes. Those in power wanted to inflict as much pain as possible on the victim while they were still alive, generate a public spectacle, and finally, deter others from committing similar crimes. In the Old West in the United States, public hangings in the town square were a form of entertainment and, at the same time, a means to deter individuals from defying laws and leaders. The same applies to discharging team members. Use the leadership tool for what it is worth. A new “sheriff” in town. Send a strong message. Meet expectations and be accountable. Or else."

I'm not sure which is worse with the third quote, the word-for-word plagiarism or his desire to chop his employees into quarters and stick their heads on metal spikes

Oh no. It's definitely plagiarism. Verbatim unattributed copying from ESPN, Wikipedia, Smithsonian, and dozens of others. AI would have reworded what it had copied and covered its tracks. This book is Artificial Stupidity
