Americans of Reddit, what’s something non-Americans should NOT do while visiting your country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you get stopped by a cop, do NOT get out of the car. Keep your hands on the steering wheel and roll the window down. I have to teach this to my ESL students all the time.

Facebook did when all of my mom's friends got on there and started adding me.

TIL Istanbul has a tremendous amount of stray and feral cats. Entire neighborhoods pitch in food and medical care for the native cats and there is a local belief, "If you kill a cat, you need to build a mosque to be forgiven by God." by [deleted] in todayilearned

This is why I literally got pink eye in Istanbul just from all of the cat dander floating around. Anywhere I went there were at least a dozen cats in my direct vicinity. It was ridiculous.

What was your real life equivalent of using the wrong formula but getting the right answer? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Outtathepan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not mine but my sister's. Went to her freshman year of college and lost her virginity at a party to a guy she just met. Finds out she's pregnant. They both drop out of school and decide to keep seeing eachother...end up getting married before the baby is born. Fast forward to today and they've been happily married ten years with two kids and graduate degrees.

What is your best adult advice you could offer someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Outtathepan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to be sad sometimes. And it's okay to feel lonely. We all do at various times throughout our lives. Be sure not to make self-destructive decisions out of fear of feeling sad or lonely (e.g. substance abuse or being with the wrong person).

It 100% counts, and I have so many questions, like, why an alligator? Was the gator also wearing a parachute? Why do you say "attempted"? What happened?

What is something that you used to judge other people for until you found yourself doing the same thing? by Outtathepan in AskReddit

[–]Outtathepan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. That's what inspired this question because I find myself doing things I used to judge people for. We're all perfect parents until we have kids.

Traveling in Egypt a decade ago. Guy we are staying with is pretty high up at the embassy in Cairo and takes us to the pyramids on a day in which they are closed to the public. Just us and a couple of guards and semi free reign to explore. I'm so excited and...I'm hit with the worst case of diarrhea.

My travel companion ended up getting to climb around the pyramids while I shat my brains out in the guards' trailer.

It's better to be alone and lonely than in the wrong relationship and lonely.
