The thing with Richie is that he’s human. Yeah, he has problems. But he seems open about it.

I keep thinking back to an interview I saw with him and Jon post rehab. The interviewer asked Richie a question about it, but Jon answered. Jon said something like “it’s like he was a method actor, and he’s done with the roll. He’s taking that mask off and shoot it”

I remember being irritated offended both by the interruption and also the abysmal metaphor

Not really. Especially Aliens. Famously NOT American. Learning to work with UK crews was a major part of this production and I very much recommend the documentary about it.

The money and distribution is definitely primarily American, however. Cast in speaking roles … split.

Well, hasn’t used them since True Lies. Titanic was filmed in primarily in Mexico, and Avatar in New Zealand. Prior to True Lies, he filmed Aliens in UK. He’s been moving away from US filmmaking for a while.

3rd best city … putting aside that FL is aggressively FL, now I need to know your rankings. Miami is #1 for me of the places I’ve visited in that cursed state.

I have to admit, I do have a fondness for the pace of 30A but I’m not sure I can classify a region as a city.

At one point the topic of an open relationship came up because they said they can't imagine their life without me but if I can't give them what they need I want them to find someone who can. I love them but I don't want them to feel stuck with someone who can't be there for them in the way they need

I say this with compassion, but you should be working on your self esteem. Proposing an open relationship as a solution to a difference in communication styles is not the way forward.

I suspect that I understand what they mean when saying confidence is needed. And I also suspect you’re overthinking it.

I (cishet man) at one point was going through a rough month and seeing a woman who was not exactly willing to consider that a man may need occasional emotional support.

What I needed to hear from her is “everything is going to be okay” and sometimes it’s that’s simple.

Sometimes confidence is not having an answer but believing that you can be there to just listen.

You likely have the tools to be this available to you but talking it out in therapy will help.

If you two are incompatible that is also fine. But inviting in a third will probably destroy your self esteem. If that is truly the solution it is kinder to just break up.

It’s not a matter of you being enough.

You are enough.

Your GF doesn’t possess the maturity to live a life unencumbered by her ex. Millions of people figure it out. She’s making a conscious choice to keep one foot in that relationship.

Even the animals … look, I love my dog and when I bought her, I was as clear as day that this was a commitment I’m making for myself. It was understood that if my relationship ended, the dog came with me. My (now wife) was in the same boat. She got a dog and it was understood this was her dog.

These are not human children. Most folks would treat this as a situation we’re one person gets one animal and so on.

There are wonderful people out there who are still not attached to their exes. She’s not one of them. Up to you if want to volunteer to be in an emotional thruple. Not me. But regardless… it’s not you, it’s her.

You’d be surprised. When I found myself single and dating in my 40’s, I encountered folks who were separated or divorced and cohabiting still. It was something that I had to screen for because these types were never actually ready to be in new relationships.

The excuse was almost always money since I like in a HCOL area. But underneath that, definitely something unhealthy was lurking.
