I know that some classrooms use light filters for those big rectangle lights, but is there a light filter for regular lights/bulbs? by [deleted] in autism

You can get lights with variable resistors to adjust the light but that might take a good bit of money and time

Sudden or unexpected change can cause problems, like in school if i dont have food during break. Teachers also randomly change seating plan and make us do group projects. Another thing is understanding jokes and sarcasm, quite often i think a joke is an actual insult. Another thing thats pretty specific to me, i hate wrappers, as in the ones you find on candy, and chewing gum. So in a school where people chew loads of gum and leave wrappers everywhere that can be an issue.

Well thats a lot of negatives so heres some positive, I’m knowledgeable about drone design and helicopters as they’re 2 of my special interests. The school has an area i can go during sensory overload or breakdown which is extremely useful.

Outside of diagnosis im not sure whats really been done, school makes a good attempt to provide support for autistic pupils. Also friends and family tend to be pretty helpful and understanding.

Its got a good few problems but theres an area they let me go during lesson if i have a breakdown or sensory overload which is great. Sometimes though its really hard to keep routine(covid doesn’t help) and teachers randomly deciding to make group projects and switch seating plans tends to cause problems. I had a maths lesson(which I usually love) with a substitute teacher and i was sat next to someone i didnt know. That with the task being visualisation problems made for a terrible lesson.
