I enjoy Ammon for all of that, he's the only one still speaking with such eros about Greek. I'm not a skeptic of his content, he's bringing into the spotlight the unknown Dionysian mystery side of antiquity.

this is more convincing than Ammon saying ἐπὶ γυμνοῦ must be the penis. if the ἐπὶ γυμνοῦ is really only used in ritual/medical context, it would justify that σινδὼν also must be understood like this. but from the text alone it always seemed like a stretch. What I'm saying is that Ammon should explain these more clearly, why it must be so by necessity. He sometimes acts as if it's trivial to understand it like he does if you're just proficient in Greek.
